It is a little harder than I thought to maintain two blogs but at least I am finding time to get on the internet. I must admit that the 35 days will go quickly since I am already 3 days into the trip and hardly remember the flight over. My host family has been extremely kind and gracious. Everywhere we go we are greeted with smiles and more food than I could eat in a lifetime. We are also getting offered drinks ( the favorite is a liquor made from potatoes that we would consider stronger than vodka and is taken in shots) . Not bad to sip but it is very strong and more than one with dinner is questionable because it can be combined with beer as well. We have been to several museums, an outdoor church service and tomorrow I will go to my first vocational visit. I will be driven near Oslo to spend a 1/2 day at a tech company. I haven't been able to translate what they do there but it is an international business. Our team is getting along very well and we are already finding ways to give each other a bad time. The running joke for me is to mention my spatula (I am using it to reach my middle back with lotion) whenever we are in group conversations to see if I will try to explain it. So far it has been a lot of confused looks.
I am already started to change the way I talk to match the accents here - not sure if it is really conscious or not but I catch myself doing it quite a bit because there is a rythym to the way they speak. Don't worry - I plan to pick up the English accent right before I come home. Nothing too funny to report or wild adventures, just a consistently good experience so far. The only exception might be that they had to come and wake me up today and I had absolutely no idea where I was - I think it was the jetlag catching up...This is a pic of me at a farm built in the 1700's in front of the "store house" building.
