| Vegetarianism ???? |
What if one day you turned on the radio and somebody was calling you a murderer? What if people were spreading videos all over the internet about how you lived a corrupted life? Maybe you were enjoying a bite of a chicken of a sandwich until the spokes person on the radio told you that you were eating toxic chemicals hazardous to your health. What if I told you that you needed to change your diet because animal farms are taking up useful land that could be used to grow grain, which could cure world hunger? Lastly, what if I told you that these were all lies that people all over the news and media are trying to get you to believe?
Most vegetarians believe that they are living a life that is healthier, morally superior, and better for the environment, but they are wrong. Some reports in the news and media suggest that vegetarianism is a healthier lifestyle because they feel that they are avoiding toxic chemicals and heart disease.
Different studies and nutritional facts have shown that a non-vegetarian diet leads to a longer and healthier life. A study done in Germany compared strict vegetarians with ones that had fish in their diet, and the ones with fish lived longer.
Vegetarians are actually more at risk for disease because their diet lacks the essential vitamin B12.
The lack of B12 leads to pernicious anemia with symptoms such as: shortness of breath, fatigue, and loss of appetite.
The lack of B12 causes nerve damage, which means losing coordination or control of movement.
Dr. Sheila Callender has treated vegetarians who had vitamin B12 deficiency, by giving them watered down drinks of their own stool in order to cure them.
Dementia is another result from the lack of B12, which means becoming dysfunctional over a period of time.
Vegetarians believe that they can get an adequate amount of vitamins from plants.
The problem with that is there is no active vitamin B12 with anything that grows out of the ground.
Where they do find active vitamin B12 on plants is where it is bacterial contaminated.
There are 2 to 9 essential amino acids that plant foods usually lack.
Vegetarian diets usually contain a high level of fiber, which creates an imbalance of the nutritional value your body needs.
Vegetarians believe that there are affective ways to substitute vitamin B12 in meat with things like pills or pre-sprayed cereal.
Dr. Herbert found that the only type of vitamin B12 we need is an analogue called cobalamin. He found that it is a rare derivative that pills and pre-sprayed cereal only contain 5% of it. This means that 95% of the generic way to supplement the vitamin is useless, risking the chances of getting more vitamin B12 deficiency.
What makes this more difficult is the 95% of the inactive version blocks the 5% active version from properly absorbing. With all of these health factors involved you can see that the human species cannot depend on fruits, vegetable, and grains alone.
We are not a vegetarian species, so the killing of animals is not morally wrong.
What is morally wrong is to deprive children of their needed vitamins.
A study done in New England to a group of 42 children who relied on sea vegetables found that they were short in stature and low in weight.
With more extreme vegetarian diets serious brain damage is seen on children causing growth defects between the ages of 4 and 5.
Studies have shown that children with conventional diets had 70% more energy and 40% more calcium intake, than children without meat in their diet.
Further studies have showed that children without meat in their diet have a harder time concentrating because 33% have failed to finish an IQ test. The bible speaks of murder to be an evil thing, but it says nothing about killing animals to be an evil thing.
All throughout ancient biblical times, the Lord commanded people to offer up the firstlings of their flocks as a sacrifice to him. In Timothy chapter four, Paul teaches of lies and hypocrisy that people will preach such as: “commanding to abstain from meats.”
Another aspect of the moral debate is the belief that if animal farms were used more effectively, world hunger could possibly be cured.
Animal farming is an effective use of land, and does not contribute to world hunger.
Maybe you have driven through parts of Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, or Texas and thought that the land could be used more effectively.
In these empty areas, grass land is often to dry for planting crops, because the water there is scarce.
Cattle however, can eat through tough desert grasses because of their ability to digest.
This land is used in the best way possible, and if we stopped animal farming, it would only contribute to world hunger not take away from it.
Think about the other parts of the world such as the Philippians, Indonesia, and South Eastern Asia. This part of the world survives mainly on rice, fish, and chicken. If they became vegetarians, than this would be two-thirds of the population joining the already starving one-third.
Not all land is available for growing crops, because much of it either mountains, desert, or near big polluted cities.
If we decided to cultivate more available land much of it would be near big cities where the pollution would take effect on the crops.
For example, the recent spinach recall that gave people E. coli was from crops near a big city in Southern California. (Levine, 121)
This already existing problem would only increase if we tried to cultivate more land.
All in all, dieting without meat can be a dangerous way to live, because of the lack of vitamin B12.Without this essential vitamin, people don’t live as long, sickness and unhealthy lifestyles are lived. Imagine having the only cure for your sickness to need to eat what your body is trying to get rid of? We are not a vegetarian species as we can be sure from our physical needs, and it also tells us in the bible. Animals are farmed in places where crops are usually not able to grow, thus making best use of the land.
All though most vegetarians believe the life they live is healthier, morally correct, and better for the environment they are mistaking. I hope that you will take into consideration the facts that you have been presented with as I have refuted some arguments for vegetarianism. Remember to be careful and selective at what you chose to believe from the news and media. They don’t always lie to you, but they don’t always tell you the truth either.
I hope you have learned the importance of taking care of your body and mind. I also hope you have a better knowledge of our world and the role animals play in it. I hope you can see and understand how animals were put here for our use and just like many other natural resources on the earth they can be appreciated if properly used.
