Directing My First Show! Holy %$#@!
That's right! :D
I'm Directing a show for the Theatre Company that I'm in....but up until now have been traveling to much to actually be involved with anything that they have done thus far.

It actually started on a not so optimistic note...
The heads of the company took a beating in the last show that they had done - and were having a revolving-door reaction alternating between denial and intense anxiety about the fact that they had prematurely booked a theatre for ten days in June about nine months ago with out really knowing what there were going to produce.

So about two weeks ago, I get a call the night before saying, "Hey! Let's have a meeting tomorrow and brainstorm about putting together a show with some of the original pieces we've all been working on!"

My reaction....'why the hell not :)'

I show up at the meeting, and I could sense that everyone seemed to have a bit of PTSD about the last experience they had, and no one seemed to be really motivated to throw the coal on the fire and get this thing (which has supposed to go up in two months  ) really moving....

I left the meeting and began to think about what I had basically been wanting lately....relative creative control of something relevant and original. And i said, "Shannon. (yes I talk to myself in third person) Shannon, this is your opportunity. This is going to be great exercise for you, and training in honing a peice into one vision, and in motivating people to be passionate and dedicated about what they are creating."

I emailed 'em and said, "I'd love direct"
They said they were relieved :)
That made me feel good :)

Now we are jumping in head first! Have the script formed and holding auditions next Monday. Ry and I have booked the rehearsal space. And I really just want this show to be good. Something worthwhile for people to see, Something they will walk away from saying, "I really dig that company"

The most wonderful thing thus far is the shift in motivation that has already taken place. Everyone is really stepping up and seems really excited!
I'm stoked

I'll probably be posting about this quite a bit, so there will def be updates on how things are coming along...

MuchLove, Everybody!

Congratulations!
I have had a stint in theater, through church affiliations.
Even had speaking parts.
I like behind the scenes much better, makeup, props, and set construction.
I also talk to myself in third person.
I sure like you instantly Shannon.
So elegant and classy, that is what I see in you.
May your elegance carry you in the motivational aspect with your cast.
Peace.
