Suck it up and change it
Watching the news, current trends, current events, listening to people talking, reading newspapers, reading the threads and blogs on here (or anywhere on the Net).... it's plainly obvious that people across the globe are not content, not happy with their lot in life.
The prophesied technology that was going to increase leisure time for us all hasn't appeared. There is still a HUGE "master - Slave" mentality when it comes to employment. Low wages, poor working conditions, employers trying to control more and more aspects fo their employees lives... none of it is good.
Governments that no longer even try to pretend they are "for the people", who are openly unaccountable and corrupt, yet still try to convice the people that they are doing a good job and/ or that the sheeple have 'never had it so good"........ none of it is good.
Media that don't care about people's lives nor the damage they do to the collective fabric and psyche of society as they report on the latest scandal, sex/hate crime, murder, etc, etc., leading people to believe that the world is going to hell in a handbasket because all they see is increasing negativity.... none of it is good.
Then, there are the people themselves, across the globe, here in these very forums - all complaining about how bad things are and how they are getting worse. None of it is good.
BUT
Here's the thing that everyone knows but no one wants to acknowledge nor admit to: Life IS what YOU make it!
I'll say it again - Life is what you make it!!
If life seems like shit to you, that's because you made it that way, either through your action or inaction. You may sit there and complain and talk about how terrible things are. You may hold on, in hope, that your God will change things. You may hold on with the notion that things have got to get worse before they get better. But unless YOU actually DO something, then you are right - Nothing will change. At least for you!
Don't get carried away with the idea of 'changing the world' either. You're setting yourself up to fail with that thought. Start with YOUR world. Change that and then you just might start to attract the kind of people into your life with whom you CAN change the world.
Just saying.......... :D

See the connection?
In this little piece of the USA I am shocked and amazed at the poor standard of service many companies give to their customers. Partly it is due to not getting the right people in the right place as employess, not giving employees the right training and not even attempting to foster loyalty to the company by looking after the staff properly. Ultimately, it is down to poor management skills from managers whom, I have found, mostly dont give a rats a$$ either.
Personally, my work ethic is that I do the utmost I can, go the extra mile, give of my all to the role I am in, whether that is something minor, trivial, to something of the utmost importance. I don't just do it for the clients/ customers either but also for my co-workers since we are all (supposed to be) a Team and only by excellent effective team working will everyone benefit. I know not everybody shares that work ethic (or perhaps can even comprehend it, in some cases!?).
Now, you may disagree but I am of the belief that substandard service, collectively, may have a direct or indirect impact on the American economy which, as we all know, is steadily collapsing in front of us so, the question is Why would people willingly commit what equates to commercial and even personal financial suicide in such a bad economic climate? Why are people so reluctant to even try to give good service these days? And why, when they are faced with complaints from unsatisfied customers, would they present with such a poor, even beliggerent attitude?
I have no answer, perhaps you do? I only hope that it is confined to this little corner of PA and isn't a more widespread 'disease' that is afflicting the majority of American business.

Reality Check...
.... I think that's what the Americans call it...
Anyway, having listened to, read about and watched American Politics for four years now, from within it's borders, as a resident amongst all these democrats and conservatives and 'don't care's' and 'not sure's'................I just want to say this.......
Obama didn't fulfill his promises, of course he didn't - He's a poltician! Did any of you actually believe he would? Especially when NONE of them before him fulfilled their promises either? His colour, his birth certifcate - none of that matters, they are just easy excuses to target him and talk s**t. All that matters is that he stepped up and claimed to be a 'leader of people'. He isn't.
HOWEVER - It's not Obama that's ruined things. Its not his predecessor 's fault. It wont even be his successor's fault.
It's YOU! The American people. Having lived amongst the 'polticial faithful' for four years, (a mere drop in the ocean of course), I can unequivocally say that America is DOOMED, as long as you people remains so divided, so opposed to each other, so beliggerrent, so f***ed up.
This year "y'all" can really make this the 'UNITED states'........or you can let it remain as plain old America.......... a one time 'superpower' that is swiftly becoming largely a joke to the rest of the world!
Your call, folks. You're up. You're turn to bat. Are you good enough????

One Love? Now I see...
I understood One Love from a Spiritual perspective (I am a Celtic-Pagan-Spiritualist) rather than a religious one. It was a sense, a knowing, not quite an abstract concept, but still not fully assimilated within me.
Then I became the father of two beuatiful, bouncing, frustrating, defiant, independent, over-confident, spoiled rotten, amazing, intelligent, loving, baby boys....
Now I KNOW, now I really understand the concept of that One Love. They came along and taught me what it really means. It may still be difficult at times to extend the same depth of One Love to others that I do to my kids, but the significance of what they have taught me isn't lost on me.
Ben and Thoughts gave me the title, the description - My boys gave me the understanding.
I shall remain forever grateful to both for the priceless gifts they have given, that I can never repay.
Do other parents understand what I mean?

Published across the ocean
As you ALL know very well, I am entirely humble, shy and retiring, often hiding my light under the proverbial bushel

but I just wanted to share the news that
I HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED
in the "Journal of Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics" (John Hopkins University) here in the good ol US of A, which means that (Since I was published in the UK too) I can rightfully claim to have 'conquered boths sides of the Atlantic in terms of getting articles published!

Thank you and goodnight!
