Christians in this country are willing to distort the truth in order to prevent abortions. Women have a right to control their own bodies. If you want a child fine, if you don't then an abortion is the best solution. At present in Southern California an up to 13 week abortion costs $399. To raise a child to age 18 costs $280,000. I imagine cost-benefit analysis would favor abortion over bringing the fetus to term. Good luck on your paper. |

3. It's a hot topic because it touches on issues of religion, ethics and gender equality. Some religions see it as immoral. Also, pro-choice supporters see the fetus as part of a woman's body rather than a separate entity, which is how I personally envision it, and so they see attempts to prohibit abortion as telling a woman how to deal with her own body. There are also historical issues of patriarchal control over reproduction and women's sexual identities.
4. Didn't know that they weren't shown them. It could be something along the same lines as why images of fetuses used by pro-life advocates are seen as distasteful by pro-choice supporters. Pro-lifers believe that seeing an image of a fetus will create emotional attachment between the mother and unborn child and so make it less likely she will abort the pregnancy. Also, they hope that when people see a developed fetus with eyes, nose, etc. it will strike them how similar it looks to a born child and again an emotional attachment will be formed. Pro-choicers on the other hand tend to consider it a form of harassment or emotional blackmail.
5. I wasn't aware that doctors were pushing for this. However, the reason is that some people consider mentally disabled persons to be less human and less worthy of life than other people. I personally find this a distasteful viewpoint. It reminds me of how some parents choose to abort female children because they would prefer males, or how the Nazis used to experiment on and kill mentally disabled persons, homosexuals, Jews and other individuals they considered "sub-human".
6. Not sure what you mean by this. Who is lieing? About what?
7. I think that abortions are morally wrong once the fetus has become "developed". That is to say, perhaps in the early stages of development the fetus can be seen merely as a conglomeration of cells but, at some point, it starts to have all the attributes that other humans have (brain activity,beating heart, etc.) and it's hard for me to think of it as a non-person once it reaches that kind of level of development. WHere exactly I would draw the line between non-person and person in this progression of development I haven't decided yet though. |

"Why arn't women shown ultra sounds before the abortion?" Because it isn't needed. She knows what she wants.

They may suggest it because it is an option that the woman may want to take. Taking care of a disabled child is a lot of work, the parents should be able to decide.
"Why are women being lied to from abortion clinics and the society so often?" They aren't lied to and when society is lieing it is from the pro-life side. When women are lied to it is by the Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

I don't think it is right or wrong. It is what it is.

I am 100% pro-choice and commited to protecting a woman's right to choose and always will be. |
