I was passing my local drinking hole (The Page on Warwick Way) on my way home tonight when a drunk stumbles out the door and falls flat on his face in the street and i cant help but think 'what is the difference between this drunk and me? - sure i am not falling asleep in the street but i will go home tonight and drink my self to sleep, i will wake up in the morning in my bed but i will also wake up feeling as shit as this man i see before me.'
So what makes me less of a Drunk?
I keep telling my self that i am not a drunk because i don't:
* Drink at work
* Drink Cheap Liquor
* Drink to forget my past
* Drink when i cant afford it
I work in an industry where the long hours and Stressful conditions play havoc on your mind, it is common for people in this line of work to throw back a few pints after work but does my line of work make it ok to drink or is it just another excuse in my DRUNKS HANDBOOK?
Well Screw it i am going back to The Page to do some research -
I guess if i wake up next to that drunk in the street tomorrow i will prove what i really am.

One of my favorite all time quotes is
"Alcohol is the anesthesia that sustains us through the surgery of life." Alas, I cannot remember who said it. I live with someone who gets up every morning and goes to a well paying, but pretty shitty job. The minute he clocks out, he pops a top on a beer and doesn't stop until he eats dinner then goes to sleep. Is he an alcoholic? Most certainly. Is he drunk? I think not. In my opinion a drunk is defined as someone who does not hold a steady job, lives only for the next drink, has no impact on the world around him/her. They exist only to drink and live for the buzz. I am not saying what my boyfriend does is right either. Lord knows we've had our ups and downs over this. But the falling down drunk, and being an obnoxious asshole and drinking shots...have all passed. He's never missed a day of work in 12 years because he was hung over (been locked up a few times and didn't make it in :-) tee hee, but has never called in sick due to booze. I am sure this is way more information than you cared to hear, so to answer your question...I think there is a big difference between the fellow that falls down drunk in the street and the silent alcoholic at home.
