| Ship's Log: 17 September 2009: Seeking Flakey Jake |
Ship's Log: Seven Mile Bridge/17 September 2009/Florida Keys
We cruise easily along the white span of the magnificent Seven Mile Bridge. A man made highway sailing over the blue waters in a graceful curve south by east. The placid crystalline waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean are bound together by this thread of bone-white concrete, and man's imagination. Wonderful to behold, marvelous to skim over. Our faithful 1965 classic red Mustang Convertible enjoys the journey as you can tell by listening to the humming music of her tires kissing the road's surface.

Overhead pelicans pace us lazily in full grace. Ungainly on land, a ballet in the air. Noisy seagulls are everywhere, nosing us in swooping flights, pacing the little convertible. AJ and I marvel at God's display of the meeting of the blue expanse of sky painted with fluffy white clouds overhead and the glittering cerulean blue of water below. Except for the Mustang's constant hum, you feel like floating between the two worlds.

We head for Marathon Key and Boot Key Bay today. Rumor has it that this center of the Florida Keys has more old timers and memories than the pyramids. Good place to seek out Flakey Jake. He might even be bobbing there at anchor on his old sloop, Hang 'em High.
