| 'I want a puppy' or how we fooled them all! |
Hey there SLC’ers!
Sorry about the lapse in blogging last week, but we have been up to some serious fun here at camp! The big news of the day here at SLC is that the biggest “foosh” (a practical joke in SLC speak) in our 107 year history was pulled off on Sunday evening. Allow me to explain…
Picture it, SLC, August 9, 2009. Campers and their families are enjoying an amazing (if a bit cloudy) visiting day. Families are picnicking, Mainside groups are performing in the music show, a good time is being had by all. As the families depart and the campers and their counselors gathered for dinner, unsure of what was awaiting them. The first surprise came in the shape of twin musicians; Yoni and Pesach Stadlin and their band arrived from Eden Village to play for us. They performed their signature story/songs for us to huge applause. The energy rose to new heights as they performed their trademark song, “The Wave”.
The fun didn’t stop there however, as a certain long time staffer (*cough* Whammy) started the audience chanting, “We want Olympics!”. This chant has been going on all season long, ever since it was announced that the administrative staff decided to cancel the age old camp tradition. I approached the stage, as I have many times throughout the summer, to calm the audience down and to remind them that we were hosts to our visitors from Eden Village. What began as a stern “talking to” ended in the “Foosh of the Century” as I broke out Olympics by announcing that I had been in cahoots with Whammy the entire summer!
Olympics ’09 brought out the best in everyone. Our campers and staff got together to play hard, cheer hard and to create amazing plaques, cheers and skits. Everyone’s talent had a chance to take center stage and that is just how we like it here at SLC! At the end of the day of close competition, the red team managed to squeak by and take the title of SLC Olympics Champs for 2009! Congratulations for everyone who worked so hard to make Olympics ’09 a day to remember!
The fun doesn’t stop here, so be sure to tune in to the blog for more updates from camp!
