Hey there SLC’ers!
We are really off and running here at camp! The campers and staff have settled into the routine and are having the time of their lives. People here are having so much fun, even the sun decided it was time to come out and see what all the fuss was about (and believe me when I tell you it was a welcome addition to the SLC family)!
The last week saw lots of great things both here at camp and on field trips. Our Mainside soccer teams competed with camps from all over the area at Camp Kindering on Friday. I am proud to announce that our girls took home the 3rd place trophy and our boys took second! Our teen boys entered a basketball tournament at Camp Scattico on Thursday. We didn’t place, but we sure had fun trying. Stay tuned for to the blog for news next week on the Hertz Cup and Monroe Cup (Girls and Boys hockey) competitions!
On Teenside, the units have entered into an “Adventure Competition”. Each unit is spending an entire morning with the Adventure Crew working together to overcome a series of challenges. Tallies are being kept and the end of the session will see one of out teen units named “Adventure Champions of SLC”.
Drama is a busy place these days. The Eddie Cantor Theatre is buzzing with production. Teenside Drama Specialty is rehearsing Oklahoma! (I even loaned them my overalls!) and Mainside Drama Hobby is working on Beauty and the Beast. Lots of amazing talent here at SLC, the all camp show should be increadible!
The folks at the Teva Shack have been busy welcoming our newest campers, 2 goats! Our campers have named the first goat “Goatamus Prime” and Teva is holding a contest to name the second goat. Stay tuned for details! On the overnight front, we had our first official overnight on Thursday night when Frontier and Highlands hit the trails for a cook out meal and a night under the stars. Boulder Hill and Timberline got rained out, but we are looking forward to the rescheduled night out.
As I am typing these words, I am looking out the windows of the main building and seeing sailboats criss-crossing Lake Surprise and I hear the excited sounds of campers splashing around the lake. Our waterfront looks beautiful and is full of excitement!
There are just too many things going on here to name all of them, we have socials, hikes, arts and crafts, archery, music, dance, hobby, specialty, campfires, cookouts and so much more. With this much going on, we may never come home!
Tune in next week for an update on all the SLC happenings! ‘Till then I am officially “Nestled ‘neath the shady trees…”
