 Christianity on Homosexuality
I always had trouble reading St. Paul's books. Even when I considered the Bible infallible I just couldn't wrap my mind around his books. They seem so vague and almost purposely so. Other people love St. Paul's work, and find great meaning in it. But it just doesn't feel right to me.
We need to be very careful when deciding that we have the right to prevent someone from loving someone else. I'm not sure everyone realizes what a serious position they're putting themselves in when they say homosexuality should be banned. They've decided that they should decide the fate of millions of people. Before you take this view you should understand what your faith says about it, since people of faith are usually the ones to have a problem with Homosexuality. Since the majority of people are Christians let's see what Christianity says about it:
St. Paul is often quoted on Homosexuality, in Romans he criticizes unnatural sex. In what way is Homosexuality unnatural? As Christoper Hitchens says in god is not GREAT: "Clearly the human species is designed to experiment with sex". I disagree with many things Hitchens says, but I must agree with this point. Homosexuality is not unnatural, therefore Romans 1:26 and :27 has no validity. In Corinthians Paul names many things that will keep an individual out of heaven. One was translated as masturbation, which was then translated to homosexual. According to http://www.religioustolerance.org/ the true meaning is lost. Jude 7 also has a quote that prohibits one from going after "strange flesh", but again the meaning is lost. But Paul's writings are still interpreted to discourage Homosexual relationships.
Here is the most important part, that a Christian can't argue with. Just because Paul says something doesn't make it true! There are only four books that have quotes that can be called true. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Only Jesus' word is holy. St. Doofus could have written something and we could have decided to put it into the Bible. The only true Scriptures are Jesus' words, and what does Jesus say on Homosexuality? He says nothing, we don't know how God feels about Homosexuality.
The old Testament is also quoted to discourage Homosexuality. The old Testament also says that an unruly child is to be stoned, so if you use the old Testament to stop Homosexuality be prepared to kill your children. Don't set a double standard.
There is nothing wrong with Homosexuality.
