Its really sad to see how people as a group are so unconnected with eachother these days. We have no comittment anymore,we have no sence of belonging and why is that? February is black history month, you would think that not only black people but everyone would take this chance to relize how far we have all come as a people and see how much more we have to go. And also just further reunite us all as a people. In 1860 the law was passed to ban slavery against black people 148 yrs ago. Yes we can vote, we can sit where ever we want to, we can be friends with anyone we want to. We are free in many ways and in alot of ways we are not. To completly say we are free as a people is completly one-sided. We only see what we want and to be completly blindsided by the fact that slavery is all around us, in our harboring cities and residing countries, it very sad to just not notice people just like you and me struggle. They dont even have a chance because its never seen or talked about. Children are sold everyday in this country and others everyday. No one says anything about this issue, its never in the public eye. We only talk about how far African Americans have came and yes thats very true but it pisses me off when everyone says we are free. And that we've made it through because yes that was a big piece but there is so much more to the whole picture. No one understands that yes rasisim is always a factor and it will always be until someone steps up and talks about issues going on today. Instead of just remembering the past and what all has been accomplished, why do people think everythings done? theres nothing left to do but bask in your freedom? What about everyone else? This month should be dedicated to those who helped us get this far and a huge stepping stone to pick up where they left off, because there is still alot to do people. We are not free until we as a whole are free as well.
