| In response to "underweight"

I just wanted to write a quick blurb about this. I do believe that eating disorders exist, I had one. But...I think it has become popular to have one. I am not sure that society is doing anything but making it worse! I am a big girl. (by the way little girls starving yourselves, if you plan on eating, ever, you will get fat! You are destroying your metabolism!)
Anyway, I am a big girl, my hubby is chunky and so are our parents. I come from a long line of pure blood Italians, we like to eat. It then stands to reason that my kids would probably have some meat on their bones also.
I took my 4 year old little girl to the doctor recently, and after the assessments, weight, height, what not, I was told that she was overweight. I knew that. I did. I don't let her eat a bag of chips for lunch or anything, and she does go out to play every day, I cook my own meals, rarely fry things, but other than that, we eat pretty normal food.
The doctor then went on, in front of my little girl, to tell me that kids in school can be cruel, and even in kindergarten she would be made fun of and not liked as much as the "normal" girls. He then suggested that I put her on the South Beach Diet! Seriously, I am not making this up!
Now, I ask you, why are soo many girls starving themselves and making themselves throw up? Hmmmm......that's a tough one, isn't it?

That's disgusting!
One of the women I work with (the lady next to me who's always eating) her daughter is 12 and weighs about 150 (overweight for her height and age) anyway... she recently twisted her ankle jumping on a trampoline. One of the "teachers" (I use the term lightly) asked her how she hurt her foot. She told them about how she was jumping and landed wrong... in front of the entire class he said, "Don't lie, you hurt it chasing the ice cream truck."
What kind of people do we have teaching our kids or even watching over our kids to grant them the need to say that?
It's disgusting!!

I am so glad you took her away from that Dr. I am surprised you didn't punch that a-hole in the face.
Yes the woman next to me got onto the "teacher"... we'll see if anything happens.

i can't believe that! i bet you were pissed. everyone knows too that kids can have a growth spurt at any time and then their weight evens out. i am proud of you for tolerating that. and whitters, that is inexcusable. that makes me mad and i don't even know the person that happened to.

Change doc..that's amazing isn't it? My oldest friend is a 5'6' italian guy who was a little guy when we were at high school but is now 260 pounds - and medically healthy...because his whole family have been like this since Roman times...me on the other hand...well....I don't have that excuse!...anyway Whitters - you too have a good point...we all deserve a place on this planet..send that teacher to Samoa or Tonga and see what happens when he opens his mouth about weight..power to your voices.
