| A big ole winter kick in the behind! |
A winter storm has basically shut down our region. I would love winter weather like this if I was one of the people who could stay home and just wait it out, however, this is my job. My job requires me to be at work during situations just like this. So since Monday afternoon, I have basically been living at work. As I write this blog, I am suffering from sleep deprivation, dementia, and psychosis, but really that has nothing to do with work.
I had to venture out yesterday, only because I have two furry kids at home that needed fed and an outside break. So, after unfreezing my car for the 100th time, I actually took to the roads during this crazy storm. Now, I have a vehicle that is fast, great on the interstate, sporty, and cool. But in the snow, oh boy, she sure doesn’t do much. After getting a needed push out onto the roadway, I am off on my adventure.
So I limp around on the main roads trying to get to my street. In the process I blow through a few stop signs (can’t stop or I’ll get stuck) when I notice a state police car behind me with its lights on! You have got to be kidding me!! So, I am actually pulled over in the midst of this awesome storm, because the officer did not see my seatbelt on. Wow. The one thing I actually do right is wear my seatbelt. So, Mr. officer lets me go.
I get to my lane, which has not been touched, and then get stuck again. About 15 minutes there trying to get it out, and two very nice gentlemen stopped and helped me push it through. That takes about a half hour and I have to say those guys were just angels. I speed down my street trying to break through pure packed ice and get the car stuck again in front of my driveway. At this point, I am so frazzled and pissed, that I get out and just leave it there, vowing that my damn landlords should have had someone take care of our street and that I am not killing myself trying to get the car out.
After about an hour, my conscience gets to me – as my neighbor could not have got out of her garage due to my car blocking the road. I suit up, and head out, determined to get the car in the driveway. 45 minutes of rocking, digging, pushing (all by myself!) swearing, and burning my clutch, I get the car in sideways but off the road and in my driveway!! I celebrate!! Running around like a fool! This 100 pound girl didn’t have to have any help from a man to get that car unstuck and I was darn proud!! I take my victories where I can.
So, as it stands, my car is now stuck and covered but in my driveway. I have worked 49 hours since Monday and I am still at work and I really have no idea how I am going to get back home. But so far, I have survived winter storm 2009!!
