Also, people tend to focus on the DIFFERENCES instead of the commonalities.

NO religion in itself is BAD. People are bad. I have studied many religions, beliefs and philosophies. EVERY single one puts forth one simple realization: that if each person would treat each other the way they themselves would want to be treated, there will be an utopic paradise right here on earth. What has happened in the past is that most do not even understand the religion or belief that they adhere to. This is often the fault of the leadership which has turned mankind against itself because of want of power, which in itself is contrary to what most beliefs teach. A religion is simply the way one would like the world to be and show to others how some have tried to obtain that world. Most are the same with minor variations that are BLOWN up. I will have some future blogs on this very important subject coming forthright.

This man shot two human beings on 2007-12-18 20:54:48 |

There are two issues here, legal and moral. I agree with shannatucker, the criminals were in the wrong and the law of Texas supports what the old man did.BUT, he DID KILL two human beings.
I think that he has more to worry about with the Lord than anything they could possibly to to him here on Earth.
People should learn how to shoot to disable instead of always shooting to kill. He may have brought a vengeance vendetta against himself for property even though he tried to do the right thing.

is the white race better on 2007-12-18 20:42:27 |
|
The people that I know or have had contact with who are white often fail to understand what life is like being of colored skin. People of colored skin often fail to understand how life is for whites.
I am dark like milk chocolate, but genetically I have TONS of non-black blood. Most people seem to respect me but you NEVER get FULL respect cause they figure you're just black.
I see the problem REALLY is SOCIAL status because even blacks are prejudiced against other blacks just as whites are prejudiced against other whites.
For example I listen to all types of music but whites EXPECT me listen to blast rap, but so do blacks. I like heavy rock but blacks somehow consider it a disrespect even though the earliest ROCK stars were black.Whites think I'm a wannabe.
But this carries on in all prejudices, religious, cultural, social, etc.
What it boils down to is the HAVES and HAVE NOTS. In Britain, the Celtic/Gaelic folks, after centuries of Anglo-Saxon oppression, blamed their lack of social status on those who gave up their culture and integrated with the oppressors or on those who themselves, after their own centuries of their own oppressions, are trying to move up or alleviate the situation. They in turn vented against others, usually the social system itself. This happens right here in America, too and in ways most people are not even aware of.
The struggling white blames equal opportunity for giving his job to a nonwhite. The nonwhite blames the white for not giving a fair chance to succeed because he has been born in a lacking situation. The poor black blames the rich, but still socially struggling black, for selling out.The poor white blames the rich, but still morally struggling white for being too liberal and too fair.
What they (WE) all fail to see is the ones who are blowing their opportunities to fix the situation. These are the ones, regardless of color or status, that have PLENTY and flaunt it, often in a wasteful manner.Instead, of giving back or helping those in need they sit back and watch the dogs fight for the scraps of substance and loyalty.
What we often DO see in society is the outbursts. The poor, unable to succeed financially, turn to crime & detachment. The rich, unable to stifle the crime, turn to more oppression & detachment themselves.Neither side, with its many variables, gets it.
So to input to your question, it is NOT COLOR but what people THINK THE COLOR can or cannot do. A little education, meaningful understanding and serious communication is DESPERATELY needed.

English as the offical language of the USA on 2007-12-18 19:59:14 |
|
The first people that settled in the area (circa 40,000 BCE) now known as the United States didn't speak English. They are now called Native Americans and STILL speak hundreds of different languages and dialects. Afterwards, it was Norse (Leifr EirĂksson & co., 11th-15th century), then Spanish & Italian (Cristoforo Colombo, Giovanni Caboto et al.,15th-16th century), then French (Samuel de Champlain, 16th-17th century) and of course the African tongues spoken by the slaves and their masters;in fact English wasn't a significant language here until the middle of the 17th century.
In my family, we speak French, Spanish, Afro-English, Native and various patois. We were living here, as free men, long before the Mayflower crashed onto Plymouth Rock.
So, shall we go by precedence, which English is lacking, or by population, which, again English is lacking. For convenience, yes, since Great Britain enslaved most of the world & by force many speak English. But,as the ONLY official language, I think not.Maybe,OFFICIALLY, like Canada, it can be one of two or three.
P.S. There has been a member of my family fighting for this country since the French & Indian Wars until even now, so drop the "patriotism".America is great for being a nation of diversity, otherwise we'd all be having tea at two.
Riley, is the forced Anglicized form of O'Reilly, an Celtic surname. Your forefathers were probably forced to dropped their Irish culture to be accepted here, but I bet you still celebrate St.Paddy's.How would you feel if you were told it was un-American to be Irish?Break the cycle, Colonel, and accept the AMERICAN culture of diversity.
