I don't consider myself a snob.
That being said, when I'm "talking" (online) to someone for the first time, and it's someone I may or may not be interested in (hey, it's the first time we've talked) to date....I try and make a good first impression. I try to be mindful of my spelling, grammer, and to minimize the "chatspeak" that just makes a person appear lazy.
Some of these guys are just AWFUL when it comes to their email and IM etiquette. Maybe i'm expecting too much.
Some of the gems lately (names and email addresses have been changed of course, but everything else is verbatim)
Of course I didn't say anything mean back....but my thoughts are in parentheses after each comment.
him: wuts up
(What a great way to start...)
him: wutcha gettin into
(You're not a big fan of question marks, are you?)
him: we just chillin atm
(You're at an ATM? Oh....at the moment....)
him: where u work at?
(Come on.....at least try to be grammatically correct....)
him: brb i gotta go afk for a tic
(Am I that old? What is a tic? I know it's an insect, but that's wrong here...? I looked it up, and the only thing I can find is tongue in cheek...maybe he meant to write sec.)
him: throw me a pic at (email address) if ya got one...profile seems hella nice
(hella nice? Oh I am so thrilled. That's what I was aiming for.)
him: but it gotta run to the gym and then work, but txt me or sumtn//ima be at work so i cant do callz, my number is on my away mess
(the z's instead of s's???? Say it isn't so!!)
There was another that shortened everything:
ya = you
grats = congratulations (I can deal with congrats....but grats?)
thnx = thanks
goin = going
*sigh*
On a good note, I recently saw a guy I've been crushing on lately, and I'll be seeing him again in a couple of days. Thinking about asking him out for coffee.
I am so thrilled that it's finally the weekend! The only way it could get any better was if I could get a massage appointment. (That's not going to happen, but it'll still be a nice weekend).
(note: I don't know why I had the original title as "internet dating...full of weirdos"....I think I was going to write more about some of the guys who have visited my profile...one in particular who is old enough to be my father. So I've changed the title of this entry.)

You are not asking too much! I do the online dating thing too and consider myself somewhat of the grammar police. If a guy can't take the time to write "You" instead of "U" or end a sentence with punctuation, how much time will he take to get to know me? Lazy. Or just stupid. Either way, not for me :)
