 A dog I loved
"My Dog"

With the body of a German Shepherd, the colors of an Alaskan Malamute, and such an adorable face, you can imagine why everybody says,"Oh! What a pretty dog," when I take him for a walk.

Although my dog, Harley, is cute, comely, and pulchritudinous, he's one of the most unique dogs I know. For instance when I or my mother is getting ready to go somewhere and we do any of these things: Put on my coat; comb my hair; get on my bike. Or my mother brushes her hair; picks up her pocket book; or blows her nose, Harley will get elated, because he knows we're going somewhere that he wants to go. The only time he doesn't do this is in the morning when I'm getting ready to go to school. Instead of being excited, he's sad because he knows I'm going without him.

When I play with him, I see another unique ability of Harley. Because not only will he fetch a stick and play tug of war, but I can throw pebbles at him and he will catch them and bring the pebble back. It doesn't hurt him and it's funny how he squats down and chomps the pebble into his mouth as it sails near. I've played tennis with him also on a court against an enclosed cement wall. He jumps left and right to grab the green ball. He loved it. But I've never seen him so happy as when I toss pebbles at him. He even found a good spot to hide while we play. He goes next to and behind our Eucalyptus tree in our backyard and sticks out his front paws. Cutest thing to play with him.

Another way I play with him is I find an uncluttered wall and a bouncy ball. I flick it against the wall and Harley tries to gobble it up before it rebounds back to me. It always makes me laugh when he bounds after the ball and pounces on it like a cat sallying to kill a rat.

To give him exercize, I take him to a particular church when there are no people there. Once inside the grounds, we see many paths turning abruptly and twisting through and between buildings and trees. When I let him loose, he speeds ahead of me and I follow him on my bike so that he will run all around with me. When we're done, he's panting and sounds like an old choo-choo train chugging down the track.

I'm glad my dog is Harley, and I hope he'll always be glad I'm his master.***
