WASHINGTON — Trustees for the government's two biggest benefit programs are warning that Social Security and Medicare are facing enormous financial challenges with the threats to Medicare far more severe.
The trustees on Tuesday issued their once-a-year analysis of the health of the government's two biggest benefit programs. The reserves in the Medicare trust fund that pays hospital benefits were projected to be wiped out by 2019.
