Any takers? It would cost around $40,000 per mile to move it because of the size.
Free House Offered; You Move It, It's Yours
GREENSBORO -- With home sales across the country slumping to their lowest level in 12 years, it's obvious many folks are hesitant to buy. But what if you were given a house for free?
If that sounds too good to be true, you're in luck. First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro is doing just that – giving a house away for free.
The catch – there always is one – is whoever takes the church up on its offer will be responsible for moving it from its Greene Street location in Greensboro's historic Fisher Park district.
The church is offering the house for free to anybody who would like to move it," said church representative David Kolosieke.
The two-story house, which was built between 1905 and 1910, has served as a rental property since the 1940s.
This house would be the church's third house to be relocated from their property. "The church is offering the house for free..."
- David Kolosieke
In 1995, the church relocated a house from Greene Street to Church Street.
And in 2006, a house on North Elm Street was relocated to Bessemer Avenue and converted from office space into a single-family residence.
"We've had some great success in the neighborhood with breathing new live into old homes," Kolosieke said.
Kolosieke said the church is unsure how it plans to use the property.
"The church bought the property and we're working on plans now of what we are going to do with it," he said.
As for taxes on the house, Kolosieke said they are the responsibility of whoever takes them up on their offer.
