I think religion was started a long time ago as a way to control
tribes of people for the purpose of gathering people around a
common cause and so they could conquer other tribes to gain land
without feeling guilty about killing them. If your
"god" tells you to go forth and do battle because he
has given that land to you, then you're more committed to
overcoming whatever obstacles lie in the way.

I'm a Christian, but it's not usually the first thing I announce
to people I meet as they tend to make assumptions, not all of
them positive. Why am I a Christian? Grew up going to church,
had my period of drifting in my late teens and early 20s, decided
it was important to know what I really thought and did some
research into Christianity and other religions/worldviews. Came
to the conclusion that if Jesus existed and really did what is
claimed, it was the most important thing ever and what he said is
worth listening to and changing your life for. I might do a
proper post on this at some point. Iro930 - there's probably
something in what you say way back when, but I think there's more
to it than that. I'd recommend reading "A History of
God" by a former nun called Karen Armstrong (former as she
is now agnostic) which looks at the development of the three main
monotheistic religions.

I am an Alcho-atheist-sudo-buddist with leo rising. I think that
sums it up. Also I hate priests, and the pope. I don't like the
pope. And nuns I can't stand nuns. oh, and monks don't like
monks. And most organised religion I don't agree with.

I am a catholic christian, I became so, with much thought, study,
and learning at age 40. It became clear to me that after study,
there is no deniability as to the creation of the universe, and
no explanation as to how. It is beyond the scope of possibility
in this dimension. I have read Aquinas, Hubble, Hawking, Ross,
and others before turning to religion, per se. It is not an
arguable belief without some education. I know, religion is a
sensitive topic here, and I respect the beliefs of others.
Intelligent people can disagree without resorting to insults. But
in a battle of wits, please come armed. Give valid arguments,
with some reasoning of how you come to your conclusion. Not all
astronomers/scientists accept the 'big bang' theory, There are
other concepts. Incidentaly, the discoverer of the 'big bang' was
a catholic priest astronomer. An ancient tradition. Regarding
religion itself, as a christian, I do want to say, I put my faith
in no man.Comprende?

i too do not know what to believe. ive heard stories from all
types of religions, so how am i supposed to know which is RIGHT?
is God even real? why do the good go first? why arent all our
prayers answered. why are the beautiful on the inside cursed with
unattractiveness most of the time? why is anything the way it is?
how are us humans to know what to believe and if what we're
believing is correct?

I am buddhist. I always believed all the religion have a same
point where they want all the follower to be a good human being
who are looking for peace, care and happiness..so no matter what
religion you are in, do pray sincerely everyday and you might see
some miracle thing happen. God bless you
