First Friday... know what time it is??
Time to bask in art!

Evening, Imaginary Friend! How kind of you to join me for First Friday! All the galleries are open tonight, and I just love seeing great art as well as old and new friends! Let me show you around. Let's get you away from that studio for a night? It's a beautiful, surprisingly warm night. Let's enjoy it.

First, let's stop at Herb's gallery and sample the tasty sangria! Yummy, I think they make it themselves. We'll need to hug about fifty people on our way across the room. My favorites of Herb's are upstairs. Careful on the stairs, they're narrow and twisty! *takes your hand weaves through the crowd with you*

I just love it here. Everyone's so happy. Here, I even wrote a poem about parties at Herb's gallery last spring:

jumbled jazz
muffled laughter
red sangria
on-lookers tripping over
            old oriental rugs
halls of poetry
framed on walls
splashed on canvas
                       the floor,
          friends’ embraces.
pages of a fairy tale cover
an entire room,
a lovely golden statue
carved once,
drawn again and again...
no room for ego or pretense
or elbows
every thread, crack, paint chip
happy just to exist
in the hospitality of the beaded artist--

This is where I like to be.

Had enough? Ready for more? This is my favorite night of the month. I could go on all night. Right around the corner is my friend Angel's studio. She once accidentally entitled a painting after a line from "Everybody Hurts."  We could go see her, or the others, or go listen to the live music on the corner. I always get a kick out of street musicians.  Or we could head down to the noisy pub a block down for burgers and a drink or two. It's up to you.

Wherever we go, while we walk, why don't you tell me about your day? What was the last awesome party you went to? Do you prefer to kind of hang around in the background at a party, or do you weave around, or does the party follow you around?

Do tell, Imaginary Friend. I'm all ears.

Well since it's a mind tour, how about burgers and beer on the sidewalk listening to the dude playing the violin and then a vanguard play at the Ally.
