At what age do people grow up? When do they start acting responsible? Why do some people make such stupid fucking decisions?!

My father has a problem with booze. He drinks a lot. Not to the point where he's drunk at work... but he still drinks excessively. He got caught driving. DRUNK. First time. Lost his license for 6 months. I think it was a week after he finally got it back he got done again. Not sure how long he lost it for this time but the day he was due to get it back and he lost it again. FOR BEING DRUNK! WTF? probably time to take a loof at yourself and think oh maybe this is a bad idea.

It happened another time. And then just recently he was ABOUt to get his license back and it happened again. AGAIN. This time he was REALLY remorseful and i actually thought he had learned his lesson. I've never seen him so upset. he promised me it wouldn't happen again and even didn't get mad at me or argue with me when i lectured him. For the first time he agreed with me.

So i thought that was it. I thought he really had learned his lesson and that he really would stop.

This morning my brother told me that it had happened again. Not that he'd been caught by the cops again but that he had been driving drunk. I was fuming. Absolutely ropable. I came home and didn't think about it for a while.

About fifteen minutes ago i went over there to see him but he wasn't home. So i called him on his mobile. I let him have and told him it's time to grow up and that he's gonna either kill himself, kill someone else or end up in jail. Either way its a bad fucking ending. He was quiet for most of the conversation where i ranted and cried and stressed and pleaded and begged. He promised me he would do something about it. I don't believe him. He's got a week before i go to the cops myself and get some advice on how to stop him. I don't care if it makes him angry at me. I really don't. This has to stop. I'm at my wits end.

I really don't know what else to do...

That seriously sucks, PE, but you're not responsible for your father's actions. Just sayin'...in case he doesn't get himself some help and you end up thinking there must have been more you could have done. It's on him.

I do know it's not my fault. But i also can't sit by and let it happen. I need to do everything in my power to stop it as he would do if it was me in his situaton. Because even though it's on him.. it's not gonna be ONLY him that it affects.. which i'm sure you realise anyway.

~ i agree with Bootlady...its too bad he isn't doing whats right and he is lucky to have you to get on his case about it...i hope he does whats right ~
