 Ginger's Progress (Day 3)

Hello Everyone,

I went to visit my little darling this afternoon and again....she was so happy to see mama! I let her lay across the table on a clean towel that I had brought from home. She just layed there with her head down and eyes barely open. I rubbed her precious little head over and over and kissed her over and over . While sitting there, I started reflecting on all the good times we shared. How she used to sit at the front door and look back at you with those sad eyes as if she wanted me to open the door and let her out to play. If I got close enough, she would meow over and over until I either let her out or walked away from the door. Then she would proceed to follow me all around the house..no matter where I went! If I went to the bathroom, she was there at my feet looking up at me meowing. Ginger is the smartest cat in the house I think. She learned how to open cracked doors on her own and she would also grab your hand with her paw if you had food in it and bite whatever it was you were enjoying (lol). She was so happy and full of zest before Friday and thats how I immediately knew my baby was sick. She used to give me kisses everyday and last Friday as she laid across the bed and I tried to kiss her, she shunned me and went off to hide in a corner in Don's office. :-(

Well Ginger has been in the vet hospital now for 3 days. She is doing somewhat better, but not FULLY recovering. The doctor told me that her ALT level has gone down since she was admitted which is a good thing. ALT is the result of enzymes (toxins) attacking the liver. The doctor said that after admitting her for treatment 3 days ago, Gingers ALT dropped 50 points from 257 to 182 and he is very pleased with that and hopes it will drop down to the norm, which is 130 soon. I guess the treatments and the antibiotics are working...thank God for that!

(Description of ALT levels- Significantly elevated levels of ALT often suggest the existence of other medical problems such as viral hepatitis, congestive heart failure, liver damage, biliary duct problems, infectious mononucleosis, or myopathy. For this reason, ALT is commonly used as a way of screening for liver problems. However, elevated levels of ALT do not automatically mean that medical problems exist. Fluctuation of ALT levels is normal over the course of the day)

The thing that worries the doctor the most is that her TBIL is WAY above what it should be. Gingers reading is 4.6 and it should be at the most, .9. TBIL is when a component of bile, bilirubin is secreted by the liver into the intestinal tract. High levels can lead to jaundice and indicates destruction in the liver and bile duct. He told me that they are going to try to force feed her since she still will not eat. The assistant told me this afternoon when I visited my baby that they tried to feed her with a syringe that morning and she threw it back up. They are going to do tube feedings throughout the rest of the day and night and tomorrow to see what happens. They feel that if she gets some food in her that the nutrients may help restore the damage to her liver. I'm praying for a miracle at this point and I'm not giving up on my baby just yet! When I visited her today, she started out sluggish and depressed when she first got into the room. I rubbed and kissed her, cried and prayed over her many times throughout the visit. At one point while I was crying, she put her dry warm little nose (its usually wet and cold) on my forehead  as if to tell me, "Mommy..it's gonna be alright".

She seemed to enjoy the little outing we had together when I took her outside and walked her around the courtyard. She was very alert and looking around at things and her ears were twitching away to the sounds. She even tried to jump down a couple of times..little brat. :-) I took her back inside and let her walk around the room and she walked just fine.

She kept trying to kick the bandage off of her leg though while she was walking around. She meowed a lot and I think it's because she wanted to get through one of the closed doors and hide away and not be bothered. After letting her walk around a while, I picked her up and walked her around the building. She perked up for that too! She was looking at the receptionists, the customers, the pictures on the walls, just being plain nosey. A few times when I held her n my armes wrapped in the towel, she would put her head under the towel as if she didn't want to see light.

I really enjoyed todays visit and you gotta know that I didn't want to leave her, but they had to put her back on her fluids after being with her a little over an hour. Donovan is going to visit her in the morning and he will give me an update on her condition in the morning. I am going to try not to call and bug the hell out of the doctor tommorrow since Don is going up there early. She will be so happy to see her pappa. Yesterday when he visited her, she meowed as soon as he walked into the room. It was so cute. I will go visit her in the afternoon and I am going to try not to stay too long, since Donovan would have already spent time with her. I don't want her off of her treatments for too long.

When I got home today, I put her towel next to Mateo while he was laying across a chair. He smelled it and then got up and shot up the stairs and into the closet! I'm not sure why he reacted that way to her scent, but I will ask the doctor. I wonder if he knows Ginger is in harms way. RIght now he is walking around in my office (I have Gingers towel on the back of my chair) sniffing as if he can smell her in the room. He is walking around my office looking behind stuff trying to find her and can't. :-( We try to play with him more so that he won't miss Ginger too much while she is "temporarily" away from us. They have been together for 10 years and I can imagine how he feels being here without her here to clean his dirty little forehead. :-) When Mr. Luther smelled the towel, he rubbed his fat head around on it and everything! (lol)  I guess we know who REALLY misses my baby out of all the cats! The TYRANT (Luther) who loves to provoke Ginger into chasing him around the house on a daily basis. Aaliyah? Well...she is in her own little world. She has her own problems. (lol) She is normally a loner and doesn't play with the other cats so when I put the towel up to her nose, she sniffed it for a few minutes then SLOWLY backed up as if she was scared to death of it! All the cats are unusually quiet and they are sleeping a lot without Ginger's constant meowing, which I miss so dearly. :-( They really miss her too I can tell, but not as much as Mommy and Daddy!

So that is the update on my baby. I will keep you all informed. On Friday, the doctor will run more blood work to see if her levels are going down. If they are, that is great news! If not.............I;m not sure what is next IF there is anything further they can do for her:-(. I am claiming that God will heal my baby. Please continue praying for her. I believe that an abundance of prayer brought her ALT level down and that is great. Lets pray for her TBIL now. This is the most feared thing because if this level doesn't go down, her liver will collapse and she may ultimately die...and so will a huge piece of me. :-(

I hope you enjoyed the photos above taken from my visit with my baby today. I also have slideshows of all 4 of my babies if you'd like to see the new pictures I added just yesterday. The website is www.petster.com/pelainevickers.

God bless you all and thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement.

Love,

P.E.JAY
