After seeing him play Adelaide Entertainment Centre in the 1990s I knew what to expect, but he was even better at the Festival Theatre.
Opening with The `In` Crowd followed by Kiss and Tell, the Roxy Music frontman still had the moves, style and voice - albeit the stadium sound would have been better suited to a larger venue.
Backed by a first class band and singers, highlights of the show included the slick Slave To Love, a sexed-up version of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door (which, strangely, worked), the wistful Lennon tribute Jealous Guy and the addictive Love is the Drug and Let’s Stick Together.
Support act the evergreen and delightful Joan Armatrading gave the crowd the a cheeky thumbs down for an admittedly dismal singalong during Willow.
But her own performance was seamless.
Showing she’s more than Me, Myself I, Armatrading showcased tracks from her latest album Into the Blues as well as hits including the formentioned and, as you would expect, Love and Affection and the showstopper Drop the Pilot.
A rare treat for Adelaide to see two UK living legends in the one bill - and a top night.
