Who can ever forget the pandemonium created by the Roxy Music in the concert arena? No one in his time can ever deny that Bryan Ferry, the one who formulated the group, was able to crystallize the music industry once again with the birth of their band.
Ferry, a lover of arts and music was named by Sunday Times as the “Godfather of Contemporary Style”. With his contribution in the music industry, who else can contest that?
He was born on September 26, 1945, the era when the world was devastated by the war waged by the Japanese. He was raised by a working-class family, whose father worked as a coal miner. He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Newcastle, England. Having the passion in arts, he applied to study History of Arts at the very famous Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London but was rejected.
His diverse interest in arts and music had led him to try another endeavor in his life. He, together with his friend Graham Simpson formed the Roxy Music. The Roxy Music members has had an expansion which added Andy Mackay and Brian Eno in the group. Early members included David O’List who was replaced by paul Thompson and was joined by Phil Manzanera.
With the band formed in great shape and Ferry in control of everything, being Roxy Music’s composer, arranger, singer, keyboard player,and designer, the group has released its first single entitled Virginia Plain in 1972. It was a smash hit, nonetheless, missed topping the chart. After the release of their 2nd album, Eno, left the Roxy Music and few years after that, the group has temporarily disbanded. Ferry has gone solo as an artist. However, his album had fail to catapult his solo career. In 1978, Ferry decided to re-form the group. With the band runited, hit song after a hit song came. Manifesto in 1978, flesh Blood in 1980 and Avalon in 1982. With the success of the band, Ferry has once again taught of going solo and so roxy Music halted.
To date, it was in 2001 that the Roxy Music has re-united with Mackay, Manzanera, Thompson, and Ferry as band members- still!
