Some Things Obama Should Focus On and Richard Bach
Well the President is on vacation this week and I certainly hope that he and his family enjoy themselves and have some quality time to relax and feel like normal Americans for a few days. I named this blog “Obama and Me” because I was impressed with the President first as my Senator, but also because he carried himself with a since of strength and compassion that seem genuine and real. I still hold those feeling and in no way want to present some kind of idea that I am bashing the President in any way. I acknowledge that his job is the most difficult one in the world, especially when you desire to be a force for positive change across the globe. However, I do believe there are things he has not focused on and policy ideas which he ignores and doesn’t support because of political expediency rather than any real conviction on his part. First jokingly he made the statement months ago that legalizing marijuana wasn’t something he supported. Well I think he is completely wrong on this point. First, I do not believe that it is dangerous and has millions of responsible users throughout the nation who are force to commit a crime simply because they choose to partake in something that others have decided they cannot have. Secondly, it is the largest cash crop in America. We need this money! We need the tax revenue, and we need that money to be circulated in legal legitimate businesses. It would stimulate the economy and cut a source of funding to the Mexican drug cartels. Third, in a free country it is wrong for the government to enforce its moral laws down the throats of free adult citizens who are not harmful to their neighbors and communities. Fourth, one of the biggest arguments against legalizing marijuana is an enormous fallacy, and that it is needs to stay illegal to protect the children. It is more difficult for teens to get alcohol than it is pot, because a drug dealer pays the same criminal punishment for selling to a minor as to anyone else, but alcohol being regulated by the government has harsh penalties for selling to minors that people who are not criminals do not want to risk. Another thing the President has been at least short on is ending “don’t ask, don’t tell” as well as repealing the horrific law, Defense of Marriage Act. Both of these policies are repugnant and discriminatory. The President has given much lip service to how he supports gay and lesbians, well Mr. President it is time to stand up and show your cards and actually fight to repeal these Un-American laws that harm our citizens and treat a minority in this nation like they are not fully people, and it must stop. Finally the President needs to say that when a crime has been committed it should be punished. I find it disgusting that war criminals like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, BlackWater and all the other war criminals and war profiteers from the last administration get to go free and even get to continue to prosper from their crimes, because you and your staff have decided it is to politically difficult and explosive to do so. That shows a lack of conviction and strength. I guarantee your Justice Department is not going to go soft on bank robber just because they were broke and trying to feed their families during this economic downturn. When those who are supposed to enforce the law are themselves the lawbreakers, then how can there be any respect for the law at all? If we let all the Bush War Criminals go unpunished it says to the rest of the world, “See America is the Do as I say not as I do country” why should we listen to them or respect them? As stated before I do believe the President has done a good job and certainly working hard with no help from his opponents and little help from many within his own party, I just wanted to vent on a few things I feel like he has ignored that are certainly important to Me.

Well, now we come to the Philosopher of the Week, a man by the name of Richard Bach. If you haven’t heard of him I hope this inspires you to go out and find some of his books and give them a read, it just might change your whole life. He wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull as well as, Illusions. He has been a writer near and dear to my heart and soul for a very long time and I am glad to share him with you. Richard Bach wrote, “A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit.” I feel this way in my bones and hope that perseverance will someday pay off with a job doing this or something like it for a living. Bach also said, “Avoid problems, and you'll never be the one who overcame them.” Yes, never run from, but to face those things in life that are difficult, and be strong in heart my friends. Here is one more to get you through your Monday, Bach wrote, “Allow the world to live as it chooses, and allow yourself to live as you choose.” Better advice, I could never give, live, love and always be yourself, do your own thinking and always strive to be the person you want to be, never the one someone else wants. Well friends until tomorrow, goodbye….
