| More to Fear from Big Business than Big Government |
My “Soulless” Congressman Tim Johnson enjoyed getting applause from the crowd by invoking the name of Thomas Jefferson, and how he believed in small government and how the Founding Fathers could not imagine the size of the Federal Government as it exists today. It is fairly normal rhetoric from the right, always calling forth the image of Jefferson, Washington or whomever and drawing on simple citizen’s pride and patriotism to demonstrate to evils of the modern Washington DC and how they have lost touch with the common values of America. Of course it is all garbage, like most things that the drones of the right spew forth in an effort to fatten the coffers of their corporate masters. The Founders obviously would not recognize the Federal Government, but they would not comprehend the size and power of Multi-Nation Corporations either. I certainly think if you go back and read the Federalist Papers and all of Jefferson’s writings I can promise you that if the Founding Fathers where here today they would be far more fearful of the Unchecked power of Corporations which we as citizens have no control over, as opposed to the government that we do have control over. The Right and the Republicans have sold the small minded people in America a bill of goods and they have bought it all the way to the poorhouse. I say unequivocally to all that oppose real change and what the President is trying to do, it is you who are destroying this country and have allowed the rich to get richer and yourself to get poorer. Taxes are not what you should fear, what you should fear is when there is no more jobs in America that pay a living wage. If you are a Republican or a right-winger and are not rich then you are a sucker and a fool, and when the powerful and wealthy have sucked every last dime out of you and this country and move on, I guess all I will have to say is, “I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!”
Going along with my last paragraph I saw some footage on CNN of the “Teabag Express” and I didn’t know if I wanted to cry of laugh. I am horrified at the attitudes and psychosis of these people who are so separated from reality I wonder what planet they came from. It is obvious that some of this is just fueled by the racist backlash of there being the first Black President. However I fear it runs much deeper than this. America is a nation with a long history of hate and intolerance. From the KKK to White Supremacists groups, we have been a nation that has always had a radical vicious minority that hates everything that isn’t personally identifiable. These people hate change, they hate progress, and they fear the unknown. Sadly they do not understand the simple principle that we can never go back only forward. It is going to take open-minded understanding of the realties that face us, and an embracing of cooperation and tolerance for America to move forward, but I fear these people will continue to be an obstacle in the way until they are sadly marginalized by their own violence and abhorrent behavior and cause real harm to others. I have said it over and over, but only because it is coming and I do not want people to be surprised, it is only a matter of time before we get the next Tim McVeigh and the death of innocent lives fuel by bigotry, ignorance and hate.
Tomorrow night President Obama will address a joint session of Congress and I hope like hell he chastises them all for acting like children while American citizens suffer at the hands of the Insurance Industry. I’m sure he won’t, but he should call out by name every single member of Congress who has lied to their constituents about the Healthcare debate. He should call Chuck Grassley a liar, and an enemy of the poor and working class. He should ask Max Baucus what the Devil offered in exchange for his soul, and how many campaign contributions it takes to destroy the Public Option. Every single member of the house who has scared old people into believing that their government wanted to kill them, he should call out by name and say, “SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU!” He needs to be as he just said at the AFL-CIO, “Fired Up”. We need him to show us what he wants and deliver the kind of speech that will make people sit up and listen and understand that this fight isn’t about socialism, but it certainly is about the viability of our society and future. I do not know what he will say, but I know I will be listening and paying attention and I hope you all are too.
Now I come to the Philosopher of the Day. It used to be “Week”, but my blog will now have to become a bi or tri weekly blog, because of my new job so I thought the change would be in order. I will however finish up with Noam Chomsky today, who said, “The more you can increase fear of drugs and crime, welfare mothers, immigrants and aliens, the more you control all the people.” This has been the playbook of the Right and the Republican Party for decades, to divide the people into an us vs. them mentality or as any good military man would put it divide and conquer. The Right has no desire to bring peace or stability to this nation, they know power lies in how many white people they can convince have been disenfranchised by immigrants and minorities. Chomsky also said, “The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control - "indoctrination," we might say - exercised through the mass media.” I think the “Teabag Express” proves Chomsky’s statement all by itself. This insane backlash form the right is nothing more than fear created by their lifetime of indoctrination in the United States System of fuck-up-ed-ness. Well friends and others will be back sometime later this week until then goodbye…
