Football
The LSU football team received surprise 2007 championship rings today. Les Miles called the football team to a special meeting in the indoor facility where the whole team watched the highlight video of the past season.
“This was a great team,” Miles said. “The accomplishments of the 2007 team will be something that we will always remember. Don’t forget how hard you worked and the dedication it took to achieve this.”
Women’s Basketball
The women’s team beat No. 3 Oklahoma today 67-52 in the first round of the New Orleans Regional final. No. 2 LSU will play top ranked North Carolina on Monday. The Lady Tigers have advanced to the Final Four for the last four years. This will be Head Coach Van Chancellors first trip the regional finals since 1992.
Baseball
The baseball team lost today to the Florida Gators 7-1 today. This brings the team down to a 2-6 in league play. Matt Dakker, Florida’s center fielder, hit two home runs in the series, putting the Gators ahead in two games. The final game of the series will be held on Sunday.
Gymnastics
The No. 5 gymnastics team participated in the 2008 SEC Championships in Duluth, Ga. on Saturday. The team placed fourth in the tournament with a total of 196.500 points. The team’s top Scorer was Susan Jackson with a total of 39.450 points. Georgia came in first place with a total of 197.350 points. The Tigers will compete at the NCAA Regionals in Baton Rouge, April 12.
Softball
The No. 8 softball team suffered the same fate of the baseball team with a loss to Florida today. No. 4 Gators halted LSU’s 17 game winning streak. Before today, LSU beat Florida in every game since 2004.
“We practice the ball in the sun drill, but today they had a lot of trouble picking it up,” said LSU Head Coach, Yvette Girouard.
