THE PROBLEM WITH OUR SCHOOLS
Is there anyone in the real world (meaning people who are outside the imaginary universe that the media and politicians have created) who believe that more money will improve education?  Giving our children a good education will never be accomplished as long as bad public schools are the vehicle politicians are using to get even more money from the already over-burdened tax payers just to pork-a-long their political careers.
If you make teachers -no wait a minute- allow teachers to do their job and educate our children then the politicians will loose their "cash cow" which means Mr. 'I don't have any ideas but I do bring home the bacon' may not get to pork his way to re-election and/or entrenchment.
Government will stop getting more taxes to "improve education" if schools ever start doing an adequate job of educating our youth.  Politicians are not so dumb to kill the goose that's laying the golden eggs by giving America a good school system, let alone vouchers so we can do it ourselves.
Let's add to this dilemma the thousands upon thousands of potentiality good, possibly great teachers who won't even get a chance to compete for jobs because of the unions.  If any profession can maintain over a 90% retention rate you either have very happy campers (which they aren't) or they're paid very well for their services (which they deny).
This log jam will never be alleviated with these salaries and great hours unless we, the public, get the power to fire the incompetent dismal cluster that the union now protects.  We can then hire new young vigorous replacements who are more concerned with teaching their students then getting raises or stopping vouchers.
My state of Arkansas is now paying $7500 a student (believe it or not that's fairly cheap compared to the rest of the country) and the teachers are saying they want a class size of 20 students.  Do the math!  Never mind I'll do it for you - that's $150,000 for just one class.
Where's the money going?  No one knows because our State Auditor is not allowed to audit.  Only bookkeepers hired by our politicians do the auditing just like Enron.  I think other states have the same problem because they are all just following the precedent being set by our U. S. Congress.
Nothing is ever going to change if we keep re-electing the same people to office time and time again, and we do.  VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

when people are willing to pay more to be amused than educated, the system fails.
and by tossing money in the mix were just fouling it up

Hey Ben,

Long time no hear. I'm doing pretty good and I hope you are doing fine.
I really think some of the problem also comes from the lack of discipline which teachers are not allowed to enforce, alone with the unions and just throwing money at problems that seems to be the only solution that politicans know.
