When anyone contemplates the liberals, if they are knowledgeable about politics and the way the majority of Americans think, their thoughts will eventually move to the question of how does this small group of elite ideological clones control so much of America. Although intensely disliked, they continue to weave their influential tentacles into every fabric of American life, starting in politics but spreading into business and then the whole economy, at first the schools but now even into our children’s diets and sex lives. I see this as a war being fought in four separate areas (economical, cultural, intellectual and spiritual) and they are fighting for control of or at the very least interfering with all of them.
I will start with the area that the public is the most concerned with – the economy. The main reason liberals are involved in this area is because it is the only way they can move into the White House. If they can mess up the economy in a way that the ignorant electorate can’t figure out and blame it on Republicans then “Bingo” – “Happy Days are Here Again”. There is another reason and that is money, the Mother’s Milk of politics. Parties get a lot of their money in pay-offs from big corporations by handicapping their smaller competition providing their liberal corporate friends with more “market share”. Another way is openly giving them tax loopholes breeding less competition which nurtures higher prices and eventually inferior products.
Second is the cultural war which ranges from Dan Quayle’s Normandy invasion on Hollywood to the small Gettysbergs erupting on college campuses with the “Politically Correct” but the biggest battle is in Washington D.C. with the National Endowment of the Arts. The NEA is just another way to spread pork and pay off political debts and it varies from gay rights to anti-religious groups. This secret union was disrupted when many people became annoyed not at the waste but at the obscenity being cultivated by their tax dollars. There was no way of satisfying everyone without making fools out of themselves and so instead of putting condoms on their bullwhips and lifejackets on their crucifixes the NEA was stifled. This was called censorship but censorship from what – more government involvement in our culture?
The third battlefield is the intellectual one. In my opinion it is the most important and the most unforgivable for it is being fought with this countries’ children. The liberal leadership is taking control of our schools and they now have most of our teachers on board via the unions, their hiring practices and their continuing promises of more money. As long as liberals are in power there is no way we can ever give control back to the parents (or the teachers for that matter) with a voucher system or even a more inclusive tax credit for private schools. Their influence and our tax money has now seeped into and contaminated our colleges as their lust for implanting their political ideology in our youth has no limits.
The most hypocritical war for the liberals has got to be in the spiritual realm. Our forefathers would never conceive of throwing religion out of government (only government out of religion) and then allow government to infect our educational system like they have. As the government gets control of more and more property, making it untaxed, with it comes no religion (separation - although not in the Constitution) and the tumor grows with no doctor in sight or operation scheduled.
I agree that with freedom of speech there should also come a freedom for us not to have to listen but no such line has been drawn. However, when you believe flag-burning is protected speech, preaching evolution is teaching science, distributing condoms and clean needles is solving problems, and indoctrinating children is giving students a good education but restrict religion and the Ten Commandments as meddling then something is surely off-center and it certainly was not our Founding Fathers. I, therefore, believe a voucher system is the only reasonable way to insure a separation of Church, State and "education".
The real purpose the liberals desire a growing government is because as it grows we, the people and our capital, shrink but our needs remain the same and when they, the all-powerful "Big Brother", eagerly give us our needs back it will return with their control which they have been seeking from the beginning.

Interesting blog, though I'm confused. Having studied political philosophy in some depth, my understanding of liberals includes liberty in speech & actions without inciting violence, toleration & a willingness to seek understanding, revealing new ways of living etc.
Of course there are many arguments as to the practicality of a true liberal existence & what it is that constitutes liberalism, this is a big issue that we could discuss for ever!
However, none of this seems to fit your description above, I'm assuming that American liberals are not liberal, but that the label serves to cloak their real motives, but isn't this true of any political party? not that I'm advocating it! Alternatively, I sometimes wonder if any political authority (however bad)is better than none at all? What would life be like without the securities afforded in citizenship? What would life be like in a state of nature? - another huge debate beckons!
The declining, dumbed down education system has vexed me ever since I became a parent. In my opinion it will provide an unquestioning society & less capable teachers, our original thinkers of the future will be lost, ensuring a downwards spiraling cycle in terms of intelligence. We'll become a controlled obedient society - reminds me of Orson Wells 1984.
I haven't thought about it in depth , but my gut feeling is that religion & goverment should be kept seperate, I need to give this issue more thought.
The one thing that I am sure of is that the human condition will be no nearer to finding any solution to the current political debates during my life time or that of my sons & the children that they will go on to have.
On a personal note, I've noticed that you don't write very often, but when you do....it matters & is a pleasure to read.
Hi Mumsi,
Yes, the dictionary definition of liberal and the Liberals here in the States are two different animals.
As to the freedom of speech that Liberals proclaim they desire, that only pretains to them and the words that they want to hear. Newt Gingrich's speeches were all shouted down. Talk radio and political blogs, which are the only unfiltered news available in this country, are constantly on guard of being shut down or being taxed into oblivion.
As to tolerance, a professional baseball player said he didn't like playing the New York Yankees because when he rode buses there he would have to sit next to some 15 year-old pregnant child or someone with purple hair. He had to be excorted to games by a police officer "for his own protecton" because he was "so intolerant". Figure that one out (it baffles me) and that happened in New York City, the home of liberalism.
As to needing government I agree on that but many times we can do better (a lot better). No matter who wins the Presidency our Congress (corrupt to the core) will remain entrenched and they will tie anyone's hands who is the President.
As to separation of church and State (keeping government out of religion and not religion out of government), I think that means that government should not be allowed to indoctrinate the public with their own ideology (which liberals are now doing with our children via the public school system while completely removing any religious teaching).
This country has given control of our schools to the government and they are rapidly being transformed from schools into indoctrination camps. The only solution I can see is giving everyone school vouchers which the liberals now totally oppose.
I really can't comment too much on American politics, but having been a Florida resident once, living under Jeb Bush as governor... I am afraid for the states
