So, I've been doing this for two weeks.  I'm seeing some run times gradually fall, and seeing an athletic body develop in front of me when I stand in front of the mirror.

Today, I went mountain biking with a friend.  I'd never really been mountain biking before.  About half way through, I took a digger going down a rocky hill.  I got back on and kept riding.  About three quarters of the way through, going uphill, I was negotiating some rocks and roots.  I came to a stop and toppled over, not able to get the pedals moving or twist out of them fast enough.  I started to get back on and continue, but a familiar dizzy feeling started coming over me, and I sat down on a nearby rock and wreched until a mouth full of water came out.  I sprinkled some fresh water over my head from my camel back, and continued riding.  My friend paused and waited for me a little later down the trail.  "There's a long easy stretch here, about 3 or 400 meters, then the last hill."  I had to walk up the last half of the last hill."  He told me it was about eight miles, total.  "Did you ever get a workout like that riding road bike for eight miles."  I said, "No, eight miles is hardly worth riding on the road."

It was good training.  I got a dose of humility, a chance to reset some goals, and the workout was good.  I'll do it again.  I don't want to race mountain bike, though.
