This weekend was probably one of the more amazing ones I have had in my life. I had my second debate competition. This one was an invitational tournament. There was over 1,000 kids there, it was awesome. 126 kids were in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, which is my form of debate. The LDers were guaranteed 6 rounds.
Saturday morning we arrived at school at 6AM and headed out to long beach. The first round began at approximately 9ish. I was against a kid from La Costa. I saw almost nothing of the Congress kids all day, they were in round while I was out and I was consistently at the table alone lol. I had rice and noodles for lunch because Panda Express did not have fish. I did my first five rounds throughout the day and we finished at around 11PM and arrived home a little past midnight. Juliette made semi finals as did Bashouy. Unfortunately, Juls did not break for finals, but Bashouy did. Matt did not break for OA, which I think he should have.
The next morning began with the last mandatory LD round for me, Kirsten, and Linda and Congress finals for Bashouy. After the LD round at 9:45AM I returned to the table and we had to wait until 1:45PM to know if we made the break. So Pielstick made us a scavenger hunt. It was soooooooooo amazing. It had stuff on it for his son's middle name, empty Starbucks cup, blue flower, policy flow, picture of some random kid's hat, some redland guy's signature, cinnamon gum, picture of a squirrel...... It was amazing lol. Juliette and I won. But Fritz wouldn't tell us his middle name. At 1:45 they posted, I broke for octa-finals (top 16). Sadly, Kirsten and Linda did not. I went on to my next round, winning and moving on to quarter-finals. I lost this next round to an amazing guy. He won the coin flip and picked NEG. He was very good. So I went home with a quarter-finalist trophy and somehwere between 5th and 8th place out of 126 kids. It was an awesome weekend and I am sooooooo tired now.
