| Honor, Courage, and Other Such Virtues
|
|
|
I have to say, as I watched Lord of the Rings (because I’m bored and have nothing else to do), I can’t help but wonder whether people these days can be as proud, or as respectable as those of the olden days. I feel disturbed to think that chivalry may be completely forgotten now.
After all, how many of you can tell me what chicalry even MEANS without looking into a dictionary.
What happened to holding a door for a lady? About treating others with respect? Keeping quiet when others are speaking.
Obviously though, the chances of YOU giving a second thought to what I’ve just written are fairly slim.
However, in case you do happen to be the kind of person who cares, maybe we can revive the old virtues. Stand up for what you believe in and you’ll be the most courageous person I know (though how much that matters to you is questionable). Show some respect to your peers, and they’ll like you better (and respect is something that is lacking nowadays). Most importantly, though, remember this: ignorance is a plague. Good observation skills are the most effective way to cure it, so PAY ATTENTION.
With that, I close my musing. Farewell.

Hey, dont go. I hate goodbyes:P
I am refreshed by your words, mlady:) I humbly and completely agree:)
Perhaps WE can make a positive difference. I have a similar issue with people who can't say "excuse me" or control their kids when shopping. I want to make a post about it too:P
So, welcome...back?(1 post in December and just now?) and thanks:)

Oh, I keep forgetting the other part of what I want to say:P Some women are beyond age old chivalry and do not want to be bothered with the tedium of men holding doors or pulling out chairs. I suspect many would think the man is after something or expecting when a man does such a favor--which back in the day might have been no big thing. Just a thought.

Oh! Dare I go for 3:P Seeing as you watched it and apparently saw virtue in it...which character/type would you most associate with? I seemed to favor Gandalf the wizard(though knowing the actor who played him is gay turns me off the idea lest someone think that of me:P).
