Well...okay. I feel like this argument is going to make me even more stupid, but here goes. I am also African American, but I am a female and I have a college degree. I recently decided to continue going to school and obtain my Master's. My boyfriend, who is also African American, goes to college as well and will soon be getting his degree. He does not "sag" his pants or run around yelling "yo, yo,yo!" and nor does he have any children by several women.

My one disagreement with you is that we are not a credit to our race because we do not fulfill every racial stereotype. I don't want anyone calling me a damn "Negro" because I have an educational background, am well-spoken, and have a wonderful family. I want them to call me smart. My race does not define me, and neither should yours. There is an embarrassing group from every race and cultural background. Yes, there are plenty of blacks that fit every racial stereotype and do nothing to make other blacks look better. At the same time, however, there are whites that live in trailer parks, have no teeth, have sex with their family members, and would love to curb stomp any black person, regardless of how smart they claimed to be or how much rock/heavy metal they listened to. And as far as I'm concerned, a stupid white person is just as much of a "nigger" as a stupid black person. We tend to forget that the literal meaning of the word is ignorant.

I also must tell you that I get an equal amount of enjoyment from hard core rap as I do from pop music. You are not necessarily proving to anyone that you are a "special gangsta" because you like a different type of music. Personally, I hate that metal shit, but good luck with your "gangsta."

And another thing (this could go for blacks as well as whites). You never know what type of person you would end being if you were born in poor or inadequate housing with no teacher, parent, or friend to encourage or mentor you. I think that people forget that so many blacks that are born with nothing and have not one person to make them feel like anything have very little chance of growing into anything but trouble. This is often what you see in the projects and very poor black areas of town.

In the end, I would never want to be called a "Negro," because it's still a word that people use to acknowledge you simply because of your race and it has not always had a good connotation. And you don't need to compare yourself to poor, unfortunate people because you obviously are not that.

You seem to have a lot to learn about this type of stuff.

I think most discrimination begins on an economic level, the poor will always be beaten-down socially, regardless of race; take a look at any group that feels as though they have experienced "discrimination" and its a good chance that they have been the product of some type of economic oppression; women, blacks, Native Americans, Orientals, Polish, Irish, Mexicans, disabled people, amputees, etc.

incest is another stereotype that is common with people about poor white people and is not common.
would u please explain to me how being poor is a bad thing. or how being stupid is something that some people can help. its unjustified ignorance that is bad but sometimes people white or black or mexican or whatever do not have the mental capacity of common intelligence. to an extent i agree with u it is wrong for people to want to "curbstomp any blac person...and...have sex with family members" but its not common
i dont belive there is anything wrong with a person of any color if they are living in a trailer and have no teeth some people dont have much money
i dont want ignorance to be associated with trailers either there are many intelligent people who came from "trailer parks"
so please think more on this issue

I'm black and I've been called white, oreo, and other ethnic slurs that allude to me being Asian, which I am not, for not matching the racial stereotype that constitutes being black to other black people. Believe me, I know just what you're talking about (and I love rock myself, I hate rap/hiphop/R&B, but I like Eminem, too!). Let those people have themselves. But one thing I don't agree with: I am not a Negro by any stretch of the imagination. That is a derogatory term. I am African American. Anyone that calls me a Negro might as well call me a Nigger and get their ass beat anyway. You're pushing it, and not on a realistic level. But you're entitled to your opinion...just look out for the dark side of it. There's silver lining in everything you say on this particular subject that people of all races will want to explore.
