I wrote this over a year ago:
What if the participants in a typing test were judge solely on the number of words they typed, with no consideration given to the spelling, or correctness, of the words typed?
The drive among law enforcement agencies to increase and keep their conviction rate as high as possible raises some issues that must be addressed. The following ongoing situation is an example of what happens when our trust is violated and power is abused by those hiding “Under Color of Authority”.
While this contains only a portion of what has transpired, it is an honest and verifiable account of a very disturbing situation.
To give you some idea as to what Jeff has been subjected to I can make available Chante’s psycho-voicemail recordings taken from Jeff’s voicemail. These are well over a two years old and were just the beginning. Also, be aware that a look at her criminal history shows she has priors for lying to the police
This started almost three years ago when Jeff was living over on Chapel Way. He had lived there for a number of years, never once having any sort of problem. This all changed when Chante came into his life…but was finally forced to leave less than a year after meeting her months of meeting Chante because of the loud and unnecessary drama she was creating with him AND the neighbors.
Thanks to her actions (yelling and making a scene) Jeff was given a 30 day notice 3 days after moving into this second place in Niles. This forced him to move into a third place, the house in the court in Fremont. By this time Jeff was fed up with her. He told her he didn’t want her there on too many occasions to count, but she didn’t care. Instead; when the mood hit her she…
- broke into the house dozens of times, breaking windows and the sliding glass window, damaging the roll-up door, along with stealing and destroying countless items.
- stole Jeff’s son’s Little League money and money from the boy’s savings jar.
- banged on Jeff’s doors and windows all hours of the night, especially between 2am-7am so he couldn’t get any sleep for work (she had no job)
-called Jeff’s work (starting with Central Chevrolet) making slanderous (and false) statements, showing up at his work and making a scene in front of everyone, as well as writing slanderous messages with lipstick on brand new cars where he worked so all would see it when they arrived in the morning.
How was she able to do this to the house when she didn't stay there? Jeff finally figured out she was hanging out in the house across the street with a couple guys so she could see when Jeff left.
Before Jeff met her he had worked for years at Central Chevrolet, during which he completed his training ay night school to become fully certified. He was even in a Central Chevrolet television commercial . Now, he only had a few months to go before he was to receive extended benefits from Central Chevrolet… Unfortunately, due to her persistence at trying to ruin his life he lost his job, got it back, lost it, and since he was union, there was one last opportunity gain reinstatement. He was to have a meeting with Union and Central Chevrolets officials to get his job back.Well, that never happened because she turned off his alarm clock to make sure he didn’t make it to the meeting.
Then, more of the same plus:
She hit his car with a brick twice at night while it was in his driveway.
She put a hatchet through his dresser after once again breaking the window in the kitchen while he was at work.
During this daily (no exaggeration) dose of harassment he would give in and she could stay. Such was the night in April 2004 when she took off with his car (nothing new).
Supposedly she was pulled over by the Fremont Police and it was determined she was under the influence. So what happened? Oddly enough she brings the Fremont Police back to the house around midnight, lets them in, and they arrest Jeff, who was working on his car in the garage, for under the influence… What’s more, they leave his son (who had been sleeping at the time) with her... and never take her in, even though she was the one (supposedly) driving under the influence.
That was enough. He went to the Fremont Police and applied for a restraining order because of her psychotic nature… and was promptly declined.
More of the same until he was eventually forced to move from this third house. He decided to move to San Leandro in an attempt to loose her. That didn’t work. She even went so far as to make friends and stay with the next door neighbors just so she could stalk him. She was told repeatedly to stay away from the house and refused. Hence, there are a number of reports filed by Jeff and the man he was renting from at the house. These reports were for breaking windows in the house, as well as sneaking in/ attempting to sneak in the house.
Then one night after many of these reports, she (later admitted this in court that she) snuck into Jeff’s house through a window she had broken, took her clothes off, and cuffed herself to his bed with her own cuffs before waking Jeff up. Before he could comprehend what she was up to, the house was crawling with police who had their cameras out instead of guns. He was immediately cuffed and taken outside… naked.
Sometime after this she was awarded a restraining order although she was the one terrorizing him. Here is one of the incidents that followed:
She came to his room at a motel (since he was forced to move out of house four), pounded on the door, and demanded a ride home… even though he had nothing to do with her being there. Rather than allow a scene, he stepped outside and they both got in his car… only to have the police suddenly appear on her side of the car, stating they had seen her throw out a cigarette. They asked her name, his name, and that was it. He was taken away for violating the restraining order... as he was leaving for work.
That self-cuffing incident? Even though she admitted on the stand that she had set up this incident (including using her own handcuffs) and had repeatedly lied to the police on many matters concerning Jeff, they still went at him for Spousal abuse and a hostage charge… and are trying to give him seven years, eight months for this
The DA on his current case went so far as to follow him outside and say she saw him driving away…. His license was awaiting payment on a ticket that wouldn’t come up so it could be paid, so the next time he came into court they arrested him for driving on a suspended for failure to pay a ticket that would not show in the system.
Between the police calling his landlords and her making a ruckus he couldn’t keep a house or a job anymore
A following incident. They took Jeff to jail and towed his car with his motorcycle strapped firmly in the back of the car in the upright position.
When his brother went and paid to get the El Camino (with the motorcycle in the back) out of impound, the motorcycle was removed from the back and kept in the tow yard.
They took all his money except for 80 dollars (over $600) none of which was reported by the police.
He was out on a bail of $7000 (none of which was drug related) so they slapped a $35000 bail on him for the weekend… and then raised his bail to $160,000 on Monday. This would almost guarantee he would have to fight this from the inside, making him look guilty to the jurors.
His attorney (Knudsen or Kanudsen) reminds me of those described in recent SJ Mercury articles. He’s the type that keeps taking money as he does nothing but continue, continue, and continue the case to milk their client. He was even paid $1000 for a private detective to go to the different police stations and gather all the incident reports… and he never even went to Fremont! As a matter of court record, he recently had an opportunity to have the case dropped (the Judge even hinted at it!) and he still continued it!
While it sounds good that Fremont has one of the highest conviction rate around, at what price does this occur?
Do others believe, as I do, that it is entirely possible (and probable) that a police force will manipulate (manufacture?) evidence to fit a supposed crime so the can have their conviction?
If we can’t, or won’t, protect citizens from those individuals operating unchecked and over-the-line Under Color of Authority, who’s to say it won’t be me or you… or our children next time?
