 Kandy Throws me a Curve
Kandy was having difficulty breathing.  She forced her head forward and started to make a choking sound.  Then, she suddenly keeled over on her side in one of the most frightening  pass-outs I have ever witnessed.  Terror gripped me.  I stared down at her limp body and I thought for sure that Kandy was dead.  My heart plummeted as I bent to touch her, searching for a heartbeat.

Her body  jerked and she was back on her feet.  She climbed in my lap and started licking me.  I was so relieved.  I could not have been able to bear it if my adorable little miniature pinscher had died.  It would have been even worse if there had been some doggie first aid I should have known that could have saved her, and I was ignorant of it.

I took Kandy to the vet the next day to find out what happened.  The vet said her throat had probably closed off when she was clearing mucous (gagging) and it stopped her oxygen flow for a few moments.  This caused her to faint.  Apparently, one of his dogs does the same.

Since that day, my Kandy girl has fainted a few times.  It is vey stressful for her because she is confused.  It is even more stressful for me because I know her throat has temporarily closed and I always fear she may just not wake up one time.  Kandy and my other min pin Willie have been my rock through my illness.  The have been the perfect loving companionship.  They have also forced me out of bed on many occasions when all I wanted to do was sleep my day away.  Anyone who has a pet that they love knows what I mean.  "Mommy's love" is as unconditional as our pet's love is for us!

Kandy has thrown me a curve, but it makes me cherish her that much more.
