 Anonymity at War with Ego
Today, my niece emailed me and  asked me if I enjoy blogging.  I assured her it was an exciting new way of self-expression.

My advice to her was to consider what type of blogging she wanted to persue.  If she wants all her family and friends to be part of her experience and have access to her inner thoughts, then her writing may have to be adjusted to accommodate the feelings of others.   Her blogs should not be so personal that it causes family arguments or rifts in friendship.  Blogging in a world she must live in daily can be very rewarding.  It can draw her closer to her inner circle and enhance shared experiences.

The ego cries for recognition from family, friends and peers.  It is the ego that flutters with thrill when a positive comment is left after a published blog.  It is the ego that swells with pride as the number of hits on a blog increases.  To blog  with family and friends can  stroke the ego nicely.  It all boils down to revealing your name.  This is the byline you have waited forever to see in print beneath a newspaper column or a magazine article you have written.

Blogging, however, in total anonymity can unleash writing talents never tapped into before.  This type of blog offers a safe haven for the talented writer who dreams of telling all for a position on the #1 Bestsellers List.  A blogger can be as insane as they want.  They can reveal deep dark secrets that torment them.  They can be as creative and original as they want.  Anonymity allows a person to reach deeper, share more personal moments and make mistakes without backlash that filters into the private life.  It is an exhilarating sharing with one's peers.   With total anonymity the support from friends and family members lessens.  The experience is more instictive than premeditated. You gain so much, to lose so much.

Yes, the Ego is at war with Anonymity!
