EBAY HOMEPAGE CRASHES YOUR PC !!!
This problem has been causing grief to more and more people over the past week, and it seems to be spreading to other country's ebay homepages (not just the UK one).

What happens is that when you go onto the homepage it freezes your PC, stopping you from entering ebay, or doing anything else for that matter. The reason it does this is due to a PNG file from ebay developement that causes your processor to run flat-out at 100% - crashing your browser. In effect it's an internet file bomb, much like an email bomb that maliciously clogs up your email.

The only way around it is to link to your sign in page and totally by-pass the homepage. However, not all users realise this, and what most sellers are worried about is that it will put off potential bidders - which it will.

Ebay's response to this technical problem has been dismissive to say the least. Those who've complained have been told that it's their fault, with a nonsense email that suggests rubbish such as adjusting ActiveX, downloading the latest Java, contacting your ISP, deleting cookies etc...

All this is bullshit! There is nothing wrong with anyone's PC, so if you encounter this homepage crash DO NOT mess around with any settings on your computer as the problem is with ebay. There have been people who've been reformatting their hardrives and reinstalling everything due to this problem and ebay have been letting them waste their time doing this without making any annoucement whatsoever.

Best thing to do, apart from the sign in workaround, is to email ebay. Include the following:

"I'm having serious trouble logging into ebay as your homepage crashes my browser. I thought this problem may be due to my PC, but I've had a technician in, at my own expense I might add, and have been told there's nothing wrong with my PC or browser which are both up to date. I've contacted my ISP, and their technicians tell me that this problem is an ebay one caused by a png file originating from ebay developement that's acting like a file bomb. I hope you can repair this error as I believe potential buyers are being disuaded from using ebay due to it, and I for one, have gone to some expense because of it"

You'll probably get the usual lame response as mentioned, but mention things like the expense it's caused and "file bomb" and they may start to freak out and get something done!

Good to be of help, but ebay still hasn't made an announcement on it, or apologised!
