AUSTRALIAN EBAY USERS GET STRANGLED
At least that's what they're feeling at the moment with the new rule of "paypal only" on all seller listings.

It was obvious that ebay would start to bring this policy in. I predicted it previously, and now it's coming to pass. Ebay only want you to use their payment system, which is known to be unfriendly, unreliable and downright dodgy at the best of times. It's laughable that paypal thinks itself to be a viable financial service compared to a real bank that's regulated. Paypal turns it's nose up at any criticism or complaint and does whatever it wants, getting away with financial crimes that would see any other such service in the courts. In other words, it treats it's users like shit!

Australian users are only the first to have this rule made against them. The main reason they're getting hit like this is because they tended to use bank transfers more and paypal had trouble getting a foot-hold. Bank transfers are actually alot safer in Australia as they're closely governed, but paypal wasn't having any of that. So they've enforced their shitty system over a more reliable one. Soon, it'll be rolled-out on all other ebay sites when ebay thinks it's getting away with it. But how much will ebay be allowed to get away with before some government organisation says "NO FUCKING WAY!"

And to think, my favourite ebay zealot, Chris Dawson who runs the ebay fan site Tamebay, once said in a Sky News interview that "Ebay was no different to going into a high street shop" How many shops do you know where you want to pay by cash, credit card and cheque, but the shop will only accept some unsafe method and nothing else?

No, I don't know of any either. At least none that are still in business!

Already, in the UK, every seller is now forced to have paypal as a payment option. I have a feeling that soon they'll make it the only option in the UK. It's a sneaky, underhand tactic, and totally pisses over the loyalty that all users have shown ebay in the past.

This paypal monopolisation does remind me of the activities of Microsoft and their legal tangles over the use of their internet explorer and media software. They were seen to be stifling competition. Isn't ebay doing that? Would this paypal only rule be allowed in the UK or the USA?

Let's hope the monopolies and mergers commisions around the world are keeping a close eye on ebay's activities. Christ! someone has to!

I have to disagree with you on the operations of paypal. Like all companies, they are not perfect, and just like all entities on this earth, there is corruption; but to say that they do what ever they want is bs. In fact, I got ripped off on ebay while using my paypal account. I bought a pair of subs that were being sold and I was told they had 24 of them in stock and I ordered 2 of them right then. After a week and no notification from the seller that they were shipped I called them, and to my surprise (yet kind of expecting it) no one answered, I called an outrageaously large amout of times, and the call always ended at the same time in the same spot on the same hold song they automaticly put you on. (obviously a setup) After that I started a paypal complaint and tried to talk to the seller, but they would'nt reply to my messages. So after 4-5 days of that I just escallated my dispute to a paypal claim and the next day, paypal gave me my money back without any question. I love paypal for that and wouldnt you guess, I was contacted by the seller after they lost the $250 ^_^ Its not that paypal is horrible its just that it needs some improvement, and its not a monopoly but a legal and security measure, if payment is all by one system than it makes things easier. Also with paypal, people can easily get thier money back, maybe it the scammers who wont like this ^_^ Paypal will return your money if what you got was totally diffent then what you ordered, if its damaged, misadvertized, or any other seller defect which allows ppl to rest knowing there isnt anything to worry about. Hey, Im tired of alot of problems in this world, with killing for territory, homeless because of the city wants you gone, people who break the law, illegal immigrants (any race going into any country illegaly for those bent on calling supporters of law racist) but I think that an alternative payment method that does no harm to anyone, but instead is trying to make things easier and more managable is a small dent in comparison. Besides Its not my company, its not your company, so Im just happy that this place exists and im not gonna strangle anyone, just because they are changing payment methods. (plus close eye on ebays activities? are they killing ppl, starving anyone, or stealing...no they are doing no harm to anyone, and ebays rules are just like anyother, including the Constitution of the US, rules are ment to be ammended. (no one gets it right the first time)

Also, paypal may have legal issue, but they only hold %5 of these dissputes between them, credit card comp., cash, and money order/checks, so I believe that not too bad.

also, paypal is FREE, no charge for their service unless you want something extravagent, for my free paypal account i can pay with credit card, pay through my checking account in my bank, send money to friends, send money back and forth to my bank and paypal account and can get my money back from faulty dealers.

Paypal does seem like heaven to those that have been lucky enough not to have any problems with it, but when you do have a problem (and trust me you will), you'll find them the most unresposive, arrogant, and inconsiderate service there is. But don't worry, because you won't be alone, as many others have had their rose-tinted specs knocked-off them by paypal and been left with no recourse :(

I sure hope that isnt the case and I would hate for anything bad to happen to someone while shopping online. But I guess you may be right, I havent had any issues with them so im very satisfied but there are problems and people who have trouble with them, but just think if they had sent a check, money order, or cash and had problems 0.o they'd be up a creeck without paddle.

That's true, but I personally treat those who pay with cheques and postal orders far better :) mainly because paypal isn't getting it's cut from the payment. But it does look like that their "test" of paypal only in Australia is going to be enforced in other countries in the months to come :(
