 I Have Been Sold!
Hi Everyone!

When your electric company is bought out by another electric company, do you have to buy a new refrigerator?  Or maybe when your garbage pick-up company sells to another - are you forced to buy new trashcans?

The reason I ask this is because literally months ago my cell phone company (All-tel) was bought-out by Verizon.  Hey, no biggie!  For months upon months now there has been no problem at all and when your contract expires - you simply transfer over to the Verizon one if you wish.

Now though the rules have changed!  By October I must now purchase all new Verizon cell phones without any special transfer deals!  I must alter all the existing contracts by then and for me - that means I have to purchase 5 new phones no matter what!!  Two of the telephones are identical to what Verizon offers but hey, no Verizon logo on it so, "You have to get rid of that" as well.

I find all of this quite frustrating because even the frequency is the same so there is no change to anything.  Oh, I do have to take new cell phone numbers though so that will also change to a different exchange now as well - making it a long distance call if I dial my own cell phone from my home telephone though both will be in the room of the house!

One would think if a company buys out another that the customers wouldn't have to be punished for the purchase but I guess Verizon doesn't matter if their company looks good to their already locked-in customers or not.

Just another trivial rant that helps to eat away at my patience and in this case - my wallet as well.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Wow, I honestly think this is the worst thing a cell company could do. How do they expect to keep people after their contract goes bye bye.

In my very rural area it's lack of competition but if some other company might settle in me, it's curtains for them definitely!

Thanks for commenting and visiting, Blessed2be :)

That is just wrong.... And I do not see that as even being legal...
Why can't they just mail you a little logo thingy and you can put it on your phone (or in the trash) LOL

LOL. Probably because they know I *would* put it in the trash! LOL

Bejewlded, that is very unfair,it's unethical, not sure but I don't think they would get away with that in Australia! Is there someone in local government you could complain to...its just plain wrong!

We have the FCC and another bureau which name is eluding me at the moment but I am going to contact them about this. I could understand if they ran on a far-distant frequency that the present setup couldn't handle but one of their reps admitted it's the same.

LOL. Right now they are the king of the roost here with no competition (at the moment) BUT I'm a stirrer so if nothing else, I'll whip up a tee-shirt to wear knocking their business. hehe

I have Verizon Bob and when my contract is up I am seriously thinking of dropping them...getting tired of all those people following me around...LOL

Seriously, they should offer you some kind of deal, and if your other company sold you to them, can they still hold you liable for the remainder of your contract...seems to me if they can, then they should have to supply you with the phones. Big Businesses just suck the very life of us sometimes, and ALWAYS get away with it!!!!

Originally they were doing that about the remainder of the contracts but something changed their mind and now... wham. October first I have to renew and buy new phones thru them or forget it totally. Would be different if there was a competitor nearby I'm sure.

I don't understand either about why not offering a special deal or something too? Just because one business sold to the other I shouldn't be penalized as a customer.

Thanks Daisy :) xxx

Ummm you would find me a very ticked female really. I would call if you think anything is out of hand. You would be suprised how most companys will go out of their way to fix things just to keep you. If they do not I would resort to other things as far as leaving them as soon as my contract was up.

Good luck and I hope you have a great day....SMILES even when it is hard to do LOL

True but it would have to be mass-organized since as far as I know it's the whole regional area that they had purchased and done this to. I never give up without a fight either. hehe ;)

Take care, Lana :) xxx

It's odd that they're not even offering a free trade in/upgrade/whatever. Sometimes if you call and complain enough, that works. We've done that with our cable provider before. Good luck!

Yes, I thought it was very odd as well. The rep at the local 'store' for them said there wasn't and only to watch the newspapers and TV for the usual deals and try to time it out with them if possible. Isn't that cute? lol

Thanks Vamp. ;) xxx

About the only choice is those tracker(?) phones at Wal-mart where you prepay and have to keep prepaying all the time.

But I agree with ya. ha. ;) xxx

Hey Mr Bob..they can't do that legally, want me to have a look at the small print & disclaimer for you -- let me know, my expertise :) xxx

Thanks Angie, let me look into this deeper first but you may just be hearing from me. :) xxx

Bob as Rupert said above, in Australian they can't do that, they can't even force you to resign a contract, when your contracts up and if your satisfied you can just stay paying what the original contract says. I understand that you have no choice, and it seems to me they have decided to treat everyone badly (make you just suck it). Nothing like big business to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Love Sharn

Yes and over here, big business has been trying to win us over because of the present political situation with them. This sure isn't helping them! LOL

Thanks Sharn! :) xxx

VERY FRUSTRATING! Its amazing that they can get away with crap like that isn't it? I hope you raise a stink with them!
Posted by  In_This_Moment  on 2009-08-14 17:43:54

Yes, I definitely will raise a stink. This just isn't right. Paying for 5 new phones stings the old wallet enough right there.

Great to see you ITM :) xxx

Big business, keeps taking and taking! Last year I went with my girlfriend to buy her a printer which she purchased from Best Buy. After making her selection, she was informed that the printer did not have a cord and that she needed to buy a cord. What? I said, since when do you sell machines without the cord. The last time I purchased a printer it had a cord attached to it. What if this is your first printer and don't have an extra cord? I was disgusted! A little more cream off the top... milk is getting pretty thin for the rest of us. Your situation enrages me! That is past disgusting to abhorent!

I just had the same thing happen on me purchasing a new printer too. I admit it's been a while but you always got the cord! Not now though, money - money I guess.

Thanks greunie!! :) xxx

It helps keep the costs down, I brought a new DVD player and got it home to discover that the cord that plugged into the tv was not included in the deal.

That's always cute for that to happen, huh?
