Gas prices shoot up to over a buck twenty just in time for TTC workers to take a sudden strike.
Please. Bleed my dry. I don't think I hand over enough of my pay check already. I'd love it if someone would please turn a profit at my expense.
Canada is looking down the barrel of a recession, following the current eceonomic crash in the United States. In my humble opinion, the last thing the government officials should be doing is strapping Canadians for cash.
To boost and stabalize an economy, the goal is to circulate money: get the people to spend. Perhaps a tax cut or a rebate on Canadian-made goods; something of that nature to encourage Canadians to go out shopping. Instead, in the last six months Canadians have received higher property taxes, vehicle taxes, gas prices have gone up and so have TTC fares.
There is a direct link between the heightenning of gas prices and lower spending. Here is a basic problem in the combat against a recession.
On that note, if Mayor Daid Miller is so concerned with creating a green toronto, why is he raising the cost of public transit? There is no incentive to go green.
I'm a media major-to-be, not an economist. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the government is making money on the taxpayers- again.
I think another letter to the office of Dalton McGuinty is in order.

FYI:
they're projecting by the end of the year gas will cost $1.50 a litre in the GTA, and by 2010 $2.25/L

It's £1.05 - £1.10 here in the UK right now. That's like US $2.15, not sure about Canadian dollars.
