 Distorted Perceptions
Behind Camera
Brave Clicks, Look Through Cracked Lens,
Faulty Photo? Or Me?

And after a haiku, I like excerpts.
“You were supposed to finish him after we discovered he was a LaFayte. What? You can’t carry out a simple order like that?” a vindictive noblewoman growled.

“Mother, I doubt he knows anything. He was so young when his father was alive.”

“No, I’m sure of it. Sure of it, I tell you! You don’t understand, Lucas. I went through a great deal of trouble to make sure that the LaFaytes were wiped out, save the mother who was stripped of her nobility from so no one would trust her even if she did indeed know something. But now, to find Mora lied and there’s been a chance for someone to find out? No, I won’t let this happen. I won’t!”

“From what people say of Thomas and his mother’s relationship, I doubt he would have told his mother anything and since brother killed the peasant wife, I doubt you have any worry. Just relax.”

“Relax? Relax? You sound as stupid as your father when he thought nothing would become of him when I found he wasn’t of noble blood. Listen, you imprudent, spoiled half-breed, my reputation is riding on this! You never had any so you have no idea how important it is. The Emperor wants Amnesty all to himself, Mora was supposed to be dead years ago and he’s already infuriated by the fact I couldn’t deliver him his traitorous blood’s kin. There’s got to be a way to please the Emperor so he’ll restore my reputation and I can gain the power I deserve.”

“You’re…You’re still going to let me rule Ga’ar when the Emperor restores your name and Amnesty falls under New Avia’s reign, right Mother?”

“Why should I?” The woman’s voice turned jarringly icy, “If you can’t handle the simple tasks I’ve already given you, what makes me think you can run a measly village of backward idiots?”

“Mother! You can’t be serious! I had the doctor killed to stop Mora’s recovery, the courier was slain to buy us more time and-”

“And you tried to have the Princess killed, you fool!”

“I was trying to anticipate you when I heard you say you were going to get rid of the Princess! I’ve apologized endlessly, what would you have me do?”

“Figure it out! Your brother was much better at making decisions and carrying out orders than you’ll ever be. Maybe if you were truly of pure blood-”
“Mother, you weren’t even of pure blood!”

Ezekiel’s eyes flew open when he heard a loud smack rattle down the shaft walls.

“How dare you spew such insolence at your own mother! I’m blue blooded now and don’t you ever forget it! Just wait until I carry out the Emperor’s wishes, I will be more respected and honored than any Empress ever known! Now be gone, you filthy-mouthed half-caste.” after Nadine’s chastisement, there was silence and so Ezekiel forced himself to sleep, knowing the next day would not be easy.
