| Toronto's 50th Homicide of 2009 |
A 27 year old Chinese man was left to bleed on the floor after he was stabbed by a co-worker at the sushi restaurant they both worked at. What was considered a minor squabble by police quickly escalated to the point of violence and the police were called to the New Generation Japanese restaurant on Bloor Street West at around 11 at night on Saturday.
25 year old Xu Wang was arrested on the scene and is being charged with second-degree murder. The name of the victim will remain confidential until his relatives in China are notified of his death. Both the victim and the accused were in Canada on student visas, with Wang being married and having completed his studies.
Homicide Detective Seargent Terry Browne says "It's very unfortunate. It just appears to be something minor that possibly got out of hand. It has nothing to do with the neighbourhood or the surroundings."
Police seized what Browne called a "sharp edged instrument" and won't reveal what injuries were inflicted on the victim until after the official autopsy this Monday.
The cause of the incident at this time is unknown, since the two men only knew each other through work, though the police are still investigating.
