| Workshops in schools??? |
Hello there, this is my first blog page in relation to my proffessional practise module that I do at the University of Derby. I study Popular music with music technology and I am currently in my second year.
We will have to re-design our proposal due to a few unforseen problems that have recently come to our attention. Initially I was going to set up various music workshops with my band around Primary and secondary schools in Derby. The workshops would have varied when working within different ages of people.
In Primary schools the main idea was to interact with the children by involving them in various musical excercises where they get to participate in musical games. The musical games would have consisted of rhythmic, melodic and possibly harmonic elements of music.
In secondary school we decided that the workshop would need to be changed to cater for a more mature audience and would probably consisted of talking about University life and what are the benefits of taking a music course. this would have been a good chance to promote our University too if any funding was possibly given. We could also have done improvisation workshops and talked more about the theory that is envolved within playing and writing music. The main problem with this workshop idea was obtaining a CRB check from the UK Criminal Records Bureau. All adults need a CRB check In order to work and have direct contact with children within clubs, youth groups or schools. We later found out that in order to get a CRB check we need to be working within an organisation and since we were thinking of doing these workshops in schools independently we saw that we wouldn't be able get our CRB check done easily.
We have finally come to the question "Is it worth carrying on this workshop project?" and after weeks of research and careful consideration we decided that it would probably be best to re-new our proposal and think of another project with less implications.
We are currently thinking on working on our songwriting material within our band "Last Impressions" and to get around the gigging scene around Derby and beyond. We are also aiming to record an EP at the beginning of next year with a few of our songs on.
A new blog will be posted when a final decision on the proposal is made and comes into action.
