we had gods and we had goddesses,
we had spirits and we had saints,
we had icons and we had statuses,
we had pin-ups and idols just wet paint.

we had tyrants and we had dictators,
we had oppressors and we had tormentors,
we had autocrats and we had teasers,
we had despots and we had persecutors.
.
we had kings and we had queens,
we had emperors and we had empresses,
we had gentlemen and we had ladies,
we had lords and we had mistresses.
.
now we have a pack and we have a mob,
and believe me the world is full of them,
we have officers and we have politicians,
and each of them is one big problem.
.
to make myself understood, to make myself clear,
we have dolls and we have teddy-bears,
creeping slippery in your lonesome hearts,
to make you feel like you are of good cheer.
.
we had batman and we had superman,
and each of them was a bit of a lad,
but we never had a father, we never had a daddy,
now let me be your dad and call me overdad.
