| A Letter To My Daughter |
I wrote the following letter to my daughter during my pregnancy. It is almost her 2nd birthday and I thought I'd share it. She will not be receiving the letter until her 18th birthday. I hope you enjoy it:
Dear Deja,
I am writing this to you about 4 months before your due date. I am 18 years old and you came as a surprise, but I love you dearly. I am terrified of being a mother, as I am a child myself. My whole life is changed now that I am expecting. I look different obviously, my relationships with my friends and family have changed, and life for me will never be the same. I have to get a job now instead of going to college as I had hoped. I recently moved to Long Beach, California in hopes of making a better life for you here. Your father and I are excited to meet you, although you will not grow up in the traditional family. I'm sorry about that. I wish I was having you at a more reasonable age, with a husband, a good job, and a real home. But no matter what we love you more than life itself. I'm doing everything I can to support you, although I am not exactly proud of what I have to do. Someday I will understand why this all happened to me. I believe you happened for a reason, saving me from taking a path not exactly the best for me. Someday you will understand everything too, and why you were born into this crazy family. It's a learning process that we will go through together.I will do my best to support you and make the best life for you that I possibly can, being a mother and a friend to you. Again, I can't wait to meet you and spend the rest of my life being your mother. I love you so much.
With Love From Your Mom,
Ashali Karissa Fox
