I haven't been at school so far this week (thank god for break after exams!) but I have noticed some things when I have been there for the rest of the year.
People care too much about what they look like. It's really stupid. I recently went on the internet and found some very interesting debate topics about obesity problems in America and what we should be doing about it. I've heard many ideas such as shutting down the fast food market, more diet and exercise, and much more.
But when it gets to a point when people think, "Oh my god, I'm fat, I'm going to go and starve myself for the next week," then that's where I draw the line. Don't get me wrong, dieting and exercise is good. I've been reading my friend Whitters' blog and cheering her on for her diet, but some things are just plain wrong.
Recently, I posted this in a forum, and I think that this might go well in this particular blog post;
"Obeisity may be one problem, but it's not the biggest problem in the world.
What should be talked about is dieting.
Being "fat" is really just a state of mind. Who's who to tell us that you have to look like this or weigh this much to be an average person? There is no such thing as "average" and therefore there cannot be a such thing as "above average" or "below average". Therefore, in this case, there can't be such a thing a fat or skinny.
It may not be healthy to eat so much fatty foods, but it's not our problem. Each individual person should look after themselves, and not worry about what other people think or say. If they want to eat so much McDonalds, Buger King, Chinese food, and other such things, then that's their problem. It's not ours. Don't take the opinion that it's the obligation of the whole to worry about the individual."
I don't believe that shutting down the fast food industries would help a lot, because people also cook the same sort of greasy, fast-food type junk at home. Microwavable dinners, pizza pockets, and many other things assist in the obeisity "problems" of today.
I believe that if people want to be "overweight", then let them. Worry about yourself and your children (if you have any), don't bother yourself with the problems of a stranger you see on the streets.
From weight come the stereotypes of appearance. There's the big, muscled jock, the skinny cheerleader girl, the scrawny dork, and many more. But this is all a lie. What are people trying to prove, setting people up into groups? I make friends with as many people as I can, no matter what they look like, because I know that if I can make a smile on just one person's face that day, then my friendship will have been worth it. But people don't see society like this. What many people see is a strange kid that no-one hangs out with, or some gothic punk that's just to creepy to be seen with. I see people as people; nothing more, nothing less.
But, then again, that's just the opinion of a 14-year-old girl.
I would love to hear other people's opinions. Please, if you have an idea, share with us in the comment section.
