The SECOND time I've had to write this, because the stupid computer restarted on me... I just hope my game I downloaded had enough time to install!
"Kaya!" Vlad's voice penetrated into Kaya's dreams. Or, rather, nightmares. Her visions went to the time when her parents left, when the pets she had from the forest died, and now Vlad leaving her.
"Kaya!" His voice sounded more urgent this time. Why couldn't it just go away? It was so annoying...
"Kaya, wake up!"
Kaya woke with a start. She looked around and saw Vlad standing next to her bed. "Get your cloak," he said. "We have to go now!"
Kaya rubbed sleep out of her eyes and looked at him quizically. "Why?" she asked. Nonetheless, she stood up and fumbled around, looking for her cloak and daggers.
"The orcs are just over the hill, using the trees for cover," he replied. "If we don't leave now, while it's still night, they might surround the dwarven city. Then we'll be stuck here!"
This made Kaya move a bit faster. She found her cloak and weapons and, not even bothering to put them on, followed Vlad hurridly out the door.
What Vlad had said must have been true, it was night. There was no one in the hallways. No servents, no aristocrats, no entertainers or jesters; the hallways were completely deserted. Furniture and paintings cast eerie shadows in the dim light of the torches that lined the halls. The shadows looked like people in black cloaks, waiting to jump out at the two elves as they passed by. Kaya couldn't help but be a little afraid.
The streets were not much better. A few late-night stragglers and drunks wandered the streets, finally headed home. Stores were closed, as were bars and taverns. Kaya had heard tales that bandits and robbers prefered to stay out at night. She put a hand on her dagger.
Vlad and Kaya reached the spot where they had been when they first arrived. Vlad drew his sword, held it up high, and put an arm around Kaya. "Hold on tight," he said. Remembering what happened last time, Kaya wrapped her arms tightly around Vlad. Almost immediately, she felt a tug, as though someone were trying to drag her up and into the rocks above her. Although the darkness prevented her from seeing anything, Kaya closed her eyes.
In a few seconds, they reached the surface. There was a cart and donkey waiting for them there. They hurridly scrambled into the back of the cart, and the donkey took off. Kaya shivered in the chill night air and watched as the sun rose in front of them. It really was a beautiful sight. There was only one thing that ruined the scene:
Smoke. Someone was burning a fire in the forest. In Kaya's home. Kaya clenched her hands into fists and tried hard not to cry. Vlad looked at her face, then followed her gaze. He saw the smoke and realized what was going on. Vlad put one arm around Kaya and hugged her, trying to console the crying half-elf. Kaya buried her head in Vlad's chest and cried.
Yes! No computer re-starts this time!!! Tell me if you guys think I should try to condense the story, just for the purposes of thoughts.com viewing (i.e. less description, whatever you think I should do to make it shorter).

I think you should tell the story in the way you want to tell it. It's your story.
This is good stuff, MAK.
