Teresa enjoyed the next few weeks of school. She had several classes with Marissa, and even one with Jason. Wherever she went, there were people who said hi, or waved, or even gave her a pat on the back. Teresa was more popular then she ever was before, and it was all because of that muscle-headed jock who dared her to do something fun for a change. She had to remember to thank him...
Eventually, fewer and fewer people said hi, or waved. Soon, there was almost no one who remembered her name. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. At least Jason still remembered her, and so did Marissa. That was all Teresa really cared about.
"Wake up!" called Marissa. Teresa opened her bleary eyes and looked down at her friend. "We have to meet Jason for lunch, remember?"
"What...?" Teresa was slowly remembering things. It was Saturday. They were talking with Jason yesterday. He had invited them to lunch with his friends. "Oh, yeah."
After Teresa got dressed and washed up, they both went down to the stores and restaurants outside. Jason was there waiting for them, along with-
"Oh no," Marissa moaned. It was the muscle-headed jock and his friends, sitting there with Jason. "What're you guys doing here?" she asked.
"What's the matter?" asked Jason. "These are my friends; Kyle, Michael, and Tyler." Each of the jocks waved in turn. Kyle was the one that had dared Teresa to go up on stage.
"Nothing's the matter," replied Marissa. "Except that these guys are a bunch of ba-" Teresa cut her off with a hand over Marissa's mouth.
"Nothing," Teresa said. "Nothing's wrong. Let's just eat lunch, okay?"
They all went into one of the restaurants. It was a pizza parlor. They made their order and Jason, Kyle, Michael, and Tyler started talking about sports. That subject didn't interest Teresa and Marissa much, so they had a whispered conversation of their own.
"Why did you stop me?" asked Marissa. "I've been waiting for so long to call them that to their faces!"
"Because, I don't want to mess things up! In case you haven't noticed, we're not the most popular people around. I don't know who you hang out with, but my only two friends here so far are you and Jason. And if you say something to piss him off, I don't want to lose him as a friend!"
Marissa grinned. "I think you like him as more than a friend."
Teresa was about to make a reply when the waitress came with their pizza. They all ate and talked, and when there weren't any more slices, they paid and left. Everyone said their goodbyes politely (no matter how much they detested eachother) and went back to their rooms.
Marissa trailed behind Teresa, trying to apologise. When Teresa got up to their room, she slammed the door right in her roomate's face. There was some fumbling with the knob, then knocking. Marissa had forgotten her key inside the room. After two hours, many apologies, and a lot of gravelling, Teresa finally opened the door. In no mood to hear anymore, Teresa got in her bed and took out a book. |
