 The Truth
I may in fact be crazy, but I don't feel as if anybody tells the truth any more.  It seems as if every sentence out of every mouth is softened by giving half-truths.  Sure, not everything that is said is a lie, but just because it's not a lie, does not make it the truth, either.  I do it, too.  I've tried to catch myself and stop doing it, but that doesn't always happen.

For instance, when a friend asks if you want to go somewhere and do something, if I don't want to, I normally won't say no.  I'll say maybe or we'll see, just call me later and I'll let you know then.  I have no intentions of thinking about it any further.  I already have my mind made up that I don't want to go.  I notice many people doing the same, sometimes right back to me.

Another example - especially when debating about a subject with another that they respect, people will often mince words in attempts not to offend.  If you aren't going to give a candid opinion about the topic on which you are debating, how are you ever going to allow others to see your point of view as you believe it to be.  I mean, let's talk about abortion, the military, George Bush, homosexuality, our future, etc. without hedging our language.  Say what you mean.

This all goes back to listening to potential Presidential candidates (kind of funny how the word candid is right there, huh?).  They're all pussies.  Every single one.  Not a single one will give a straight "yes" or "no" to any questions, not even a "yes" or "no" question.  Why should we vote for you people?  You may not be liars, but you're also not very truthful.  And, what message are you sending to the rest of the nation?  When the going gets tough, be evasive?  Don't give an honest opinion because people might someday use your candidness against you?  I don't want to vote for any of these fucking jerkoffs because I don't know what they truly stand for - ON ANYTHING!

People often don't give honest opinions because they wish to not hurt feelings.  Well, the only thing worse than being lied to is believing that lie and finding out it is false some time later.  As Nietzsche puts it "Not that you lied but that I no longer believe you has shaken me."  Tell me the truth.  You are not the gatekeeper of what my ears should and should not be allowed to hear - I am.  And, only after hearing that truth will I be able to make the best decisions regarding the present situation.  So, let's be honest with one another, even if it may hurt a fragile ego.  To know that you can withstand the truth is power.
