Help!!! Give the advice how to behave, please!

Hello everyone!

I hope everything is progressing well for you. Thank you for reading this post! You know, one situation has suddenly appeared to me that I was confused and did not know how to behave and how to be delicate and polite.... Please, advice.

Yesterday, when I came home, I found the unknown guy in my room! The owner of the apartment I rent said that this is my new room-mate and that he will rent this room with me. So, I think that soon I will need to change the place of living because it is not very pleasant to live with someone you do not know but the problem is not this guy himself (he appeared to be rather calm and quite) but his SNORE! I could not sleep well today!! Argh!!!

And the question is the following: how to tell him about this problem in order not to be strict? I understand that it is very personal.... And he is not guilty he snores. Or maybe I should not tell anything about this but just close my ears with anything??? (though I am not sure it will help anyway....)

Have a nice day, friends! All the best!

I think your landlord had no right to impose someone on you in this manner, if he did that in the UK he would be reported to the authorities, and would not be allowed to rent out properties again.
as for your "new roomate" tough one i think the best solution would be earplugs LOL.
anyway i hope you don't have to put up with it for too long.
take care and be well.

I would speak to the landlord, he isnt allowed to move someone in without telling you!! If he doesnt help you maybe look for somewhere else. Good luck.

Horrible to be subjected to a roomate with out our consent. I would move as well or complain. If you are stuck then get some earplugs. There really is no alternatives but those two.

First, I agree with the first two responders as well.

Secondly, maybe buy a box of Breathe Right nasal strips and put them on his bed. Or you could hide them behind your back and say, pick a hand and when he picks the hand you give him a nasal strip and be all "Surprise!"

I dunno if that would break the ice or not, but you have to say something.

"Surprise!" LOL! Thanks, Whitters. I think this guy will be happy to get such a surprise!

how come your landlord brought someone in without you knowing first of all, second is he allowed to do that?? lol
me personally, i need my sleep so if some random guy that is now my roommate snores, i'm gunna have to tell my landlord either fix the situation or he gets no money and i move :p haha not so nice but he shouldn't have put you in that situation either.
hope it works out good luck!

agree with the others.. he ain't allowed.. but..Snoring a can be a sign of sleep apnea..a potentially dangerous condition. he should be warned..

Goodness, who is this landlord! What disrespect to another human being. Does the landlord live there too? Is your rent reduced now that you only rent half a room? There is no question for me, I'm with Steve, I would look for another option. This other person however cannot help his snoring. He probably doesn't know he does snore. Ear plugs might help in the meantime.

yes, the landlord lives in another room. rent was reduced (he told that guy to pay more). thanks for advice. i can not move at the moment, i think i will have a chance to move after the new year celebrations.

I am probably the wrong person to ask about this because i dont feel right telling someone that they snore and that they should do someting about it but hey you have to get some sleep so just tell him in the most polite way you can think of.

thanks, man! I think i should do it for the sake of my sleep. other question is: what that poor guy can do with his snoring... argh... Anyway, I see that I should say something!

Advise him to attend a sleep lab to get a handle on his sleep apnea.

Quote,
Sleep apnea, a disruption of breathing while asleep, is a deceiving sleep disorder - 90% of people who have sleep apnea don't know that they have it! Although episodes of choking or gasping for air might occur hundreds of times throughout the night, you may not have any recollection of struggling for breath.

Usually it is the bed partner who first notices that the person is struggling to breathe. If left untreated, this common disorder can be life-threatening.
End Quote.

However if it were I, then the landlord would find that his financial gain was not worth the reasonable consequences I would place before him.

My X used very good quality ear plugs to great effect. She did however dance the day I left. Not sure that response was directly related but I do wonder.
